as all of us photographers know, lighting is basically what photography is about. capturing light to make an image. i recognize the power of light in photography, as any photographer should. but where i lack is knowledge of how to use it. i wont ask you guys to teach me how to use studio lighting. flashes, strobes, beauty dishes, the list goes on and on. but what i am asking is for some fingers to be pointed in the direction of where i can read and learn on my own.... for me it is difficult to learn about things that i do not have acess to. (way out of my budget) like studio lighting and to be quite honest i have been putting it off. but it is time i face the facts. lighting is far too important for me to not learn. so websites and such would be apreciated. books too, but keep in mind i have to spend money on college books too lol. so any source of free information would be perfered.

thanks for shining some light on the subject in advance

This link was circulating in another thread. I watched the promo video - pretty cool. Gives you time to think about things - maybe even reproduce it for practice.

You really should invest in lights at the same time. Most thing you can learn by just doing, lighting included. I think people here on POTN over complicate lighting. I really don't think lighting is all that difficult, it's much easier than operation Canon's latest camera, the artistry of photography is the hardest part and the hardest to teach.

Not really. I would recommend this, pick yourself up a silver reflector, find some willing subjects and shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot...
