Our son has an S40 and does a great job with it. He bought this Alien Bee studio light. Then he bought the background. Then he saw our 300D and thought he would like to try it. My wife did the posing/setup work. This turned into a real family effort. The subject in the basket is Claire, a friends little girl. Specs: 300D, Alien Bee 400, Sunpak 555, Manual, !/200, F 6.0, ISO 100, 24.0mm with kit lens. I think we could have used some more hair light and the face looks a little soft. I'm sure there is a ton more we could learn. Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Excellent shot. How many did you have to take before both were posed so perfectly. I like the shot with limited lighting on the hair. I think it helps blend the foreground and background very well.

Thank you for the kind comments. This was a fun exercise and I think the Mom and Dad got some good pics out of it.

Mal - I had to go back and check. We took about 25 shots of this particular pose but they were taken over about 6 minutes according to the exif. Turns out it was an early shot in the sequence.

That is one thing that makes portrait photography so hard, primarily when dealing with children and animals -- getting them to pose just right. Simultaneously none the less. It looks like you were very lucky being able to photograph a baby and animal that seem to love the camera so much.

Very good image and you have nailed the very minor flaws yourself like a hair light or reflector to seperate the hair from the background and those eyes are a little soft so I would focus on them or use a smaller aperture... Nice shot though and definitely a keeper for the family album...
