Just been to a camera fair here in the U.K. where they had a Gossen 1 degree spot meter also a colour temprature meter.Has anyone out there found a need for a spot meter due to the lack of, on the 20d .Also wouldn't a colour meter solve all the white balance issues with readings in degrees Kelvin ? By the way the spot was £199 & the colour £39.

For extreme lighting contrasts, such as spot light stage actors, or for absolute exposure control, a spot meter is useful.

Only the high end, full frame Canon bodies have true spot metering built in, but use of the histogram, exposure bracketing and post image blending are all workarounds.

See http://www.photonaturalist.com/charles/index.html for some good information on spot metering.
