I am looking for a good bag to hold my 40d, and 3 lenses. Does anyone suggest a good bag? I also have a speedlite that I carry. And soon I will have a wireless flash remote.

Suggestions?

Another vote for Crumpler. I only own the 6mdh but the quality of workmanship and materials is outstanding. Yea it looks like a messenger bag but I didn't want a bag that screamed camera bag.

6mdh would work for what you want to do. 7mdh if you think you want room for expansion. I dont think I'd want to carry around a loaded 7mdh all day but it would be great if you were going to stay in a location for awhile.

Do you think that a nice RED 7mdh could double as a camera bag and a purse for about the same amount of gear?

I need to find a way to take it everywhere with me. I've seen some stunning bags, but they're like 200 dollars. I'm far to cheap for to look that nice. :)

I use a Lowepro Nova 4 for that amount of gear. It works well for me.

I have a 6mil and would advise against getting it for that much gear. It takes a toll as a messenger style bag on your shoulder. I'd recommend a 2 strap backpack.

I use a Dakine Sequence and enjoy it a lot. It's kind of big, a little inconvenient since access to your gear is on the inside of the bag (the part that lays against your back), but I like the style/looks as well as the security that no one can "pick pocket" your gear. They'd have to take your bag off to get anything.

I love my Domke bags. I had a couple Crumplers, but I always end up going back to my F2 or now my J2 and my J3 for low weight day trips :)

Domke bags just wear in so nicely

My wife just bought me a 6 million dollar home...love it..I like the seven million but it seemed a bit too big.

If your gonna carry all your gear..might as well get a bag that holds the essentials and a larger bag to hold all. I also have a lowepro toploader when I'm going outdoors and want to carry 1 lens and no flash.

I currently have a Canon backpack for the XT but am debating on giving it to my husband as he has the XT now and I have the 40D coming on Monday. Other than that, I don't have anything else. I haven't used anything but the backpack before, so I don't know what I prefer. I will say though that I do have neck issues cuz of a car accident a few years ago so I need something with low strain. Maybe keeping the backpack will be the best way for me. Does anyone know if the 40d will fit comfortably in the Canon Backpack. I have the olive green one. Can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.

they're bit pricey, smaller, but very nicely designed.

Pick one. I dumped all my LowePro and Tamrac belts, bags lens cases backpacks.

Think Tank stuff is built like a tank and suits you if you have to shoot fast.

It ain't cheap but worth every penny.

Depends which one. check my thread under my reviews and see a few.

I vote for a MDH series or the DOmke F802 which is an awesome bag as well. Possibly my next messenger to replace my DIY bag. The 7MDH I use exclusively for events so it stays clean and looks professional. I don't how, but it's clean and purty! :lol: :oops:

For all you crumpler shoulder bag guys I need some advice. I have a 40d, kit lens and flash and after walking around with this thing on my 7 mill dollar home for long periods of time it starts to really really hurt my shoulder. Anyone else experiencing this and if so anyone come up with a solution?

do you wear it slung across your body or just hanging off your shoulder?

does the 7MDH have the strap pad?
the Domke postal bag strap pad is excellent for easing the weight off your shoulder

I wear it slung across my body. It has a pad but its little more than a thin piece of material with the crumpler logo on it. One day I walked around with the bag on for like 3 hours. After that my shoulder was soar for about 3 days. I will be out all day tomorrow shooting in Miami, I am really worried about how bad my shoulder is going to feel after my excursion.

You don't say what 3 lenses; I can suggest several possible Domke bags depending on your particular combination. Assuming your 28-135 is your biggest one though, take a look at the Domke F-803.

That's all? I did 6-7 hours with 20D, 70-200, 18-50, 10-20, 100-400L, and a flash with other accessories. Yeah it kinda hurt but not that bad. Swapped shoulders here and there. Had the bag down a couple of times because it wasn't like I was hiking.

I purchased my bag because of your reviews ;) so I know you hold a TON of stuff. Is the 20d as heavy as the 40d?

Christa -

I have the Canon bag and the 40D will fit fine with your equipment.

Here is a picture of my bag holding:

70-200 f/2.8 is and Sto-Fen on one side;
40D w/Grip and 24-70 f/2.8 attached, 10-22 (in case) and battery packs in center;
580 EX II, 1.4 Extender, remote shutter release thingies and rocket blower on the other side;
manuals, cords, extra memory, lens paper and some other stuff in the inner flaps on the top cover.

You don't want to be carrying this around all day, though.

btw... with those 4 lenses, a gripped 40D, flash, extra batteries, charger... the whole thing weighs about 17 lbs. I would not want to carry that with 1 shoulder strap which is why I didn't buy a Slingshot or a "shoulder" bag. The Fastpack works very well and I can carry it all day without an aching back or shoulders. Swing it around and change lenses, etc. without having to put the pack down, also.

17? Wimp. When I weighed one of my Domkes at 30 lb, I decided weighing them wasn't really necessary. I'm sure they are above that now, especially the F-7AF.

I quite photography a few decades ago because I got tired of dragging a similar weight to yours in a shoulder bag all over the world. I'm already over my self imposed limit, again ;-)

I like the Tamrac Adventure 7 Backpack, it holds my XSI with the 55-250 attached, and 2 other lenses, plus my P&S, and I still have a free slot.

plus the upper pocket allows me to carry water, wallet, phone and any extra stuff i want to carry

I've tried a Kata backpack (wanted something that holds a Vaio laptop too) and the Crumpler 6mdh. A big Tamrac Cyberpack is what holds everything at home, but my first Domke (F-4AF) just arrived this afternoon and I can tell that it will be my everyday bag. I love the Crumpler 6mdh, but this Domke F-4AF seems to be about the same size on the outside but fits almost twice as much as the 6mdh.

Right now the Domke has in it:
40D Gripped with 70-200mm f/4 IS (Reverse hood AND MOUNTED)
17-55 2.8 IS, 50mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8, 580EX II, 430EX, Charger, Nikon lens pen, cords, 4 extra AA batteries, a photography book, rocket blaster, omni-fen diffuser for 580 and 430.

I guess it really depends on what kind of excursion I'm expecting.
If it's gonna be wet, or rural / country and I'll need all my gear then a Lowepro Vetex 200 is my bag of choice. If it's a town or urban shooting, then that needs something a little more understated and ostentatious...like a Think Tank UD40. With that bag, I just blend into the city slickers...

thank you for the phot!. It helps to see it. My camera gets here Monday so I wanted to make sure my bag will hold it.

I looked at all the other bags everyone listed here and saved them in my amazon list so I can read through them later. They are all nice looking bags. I guess I''ll just have to find one that fits best for myself. Just worried about the weight on my neck.

Another vote for the Crumpler 6MDH here. I got one a little over a month ago and it's great! I have a nifty fifty, 30D with kit lens attached, 70-200 f4, charger and rocket blower in mine (with room left for a flash).
