Just wondering if there are any other lens out there that are like the nifty fifty (i.e. the EF 1.8 50mm)? I think this is a great lens for the price, but haven't seen any other post of a great lens at a "bargain" price. Obviously the nifty fifty isn't a L glass, but the quality of photos have been remarkable given the $80.00 price.

So any others out there? Thanks.

The 17-40 F4L is an excelent lens for the money. When compared to the 16-35 F2.8L, the 17-40 performs quite well for half the price. While it not an inexpensive lens it is a good bargain.
Here is a review...

It depends on what you would consider a BARGAIN, but any L lenses under a thousand should be considered a bargain (I think).

200 f2.8 L
70-200 f4 L (A real bargain, IMHO)
17-40 f4 L
135 f2 L

Did I miss anything??.........

Of course, other brands like the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 is also considered a really good buy. Or the BIGMA from Sigma.

Nothing beats the nifty fifty though.....for the price, it is the ULTIMATE bargain.

I think that the EF-S 18-55 is about the same bargain as the 50mm f1.8. If you try and get another Canon lens with the same focal range - you're looking at $600 instead of $100 or less for the EF-S.

Really the EF-S is a better bargain since the 50mm F1.4 is $300, so the EF-S is 1/6th the price of it's brother vs. the 50mm F1.8 being 1/4th the price of the f1.4

I agree ...

also add the 85 1.8 ..
Many of the Tamron lenses.
Just take some time, and research different lenses.
You will find the images that you like.

f/4 lens are a bargain, but just too slow for low light work. That is why they are half price. I suppose if you live where the sun shines . . . they would be fine. But for those who work early, late, or with cloudy and or overcast conditions you need 2.8 at best. Faster if you got 'em.

The EF 80-200 II

Very usable image quality for a kit zoom!
Being so tiny and having fast focus are bonuses
