Anyone else experience this?

With the camera off, I open the compact flash door, change lenses, remove battery. the Self timer redeye light comes on. If I turn the camera on, the light comes on for just an instant.

Does this in all modes, did this with both 24-70L
lens and 70-200L IS. Take the lens off, flashes for an instant, put it
on stays lit for approx 1 second. Same with memory door. Open it, it
comes on for an instant, close it more like a second.

Otherwise the camera seems to work fine. It does it with or without a
lens attached, with or without the BG-E2 attached.

Tried Lexar 80X and Sandisk Ultra II CF, tried reset all. Tried no battery for two hours.

Around 1K pictures taken. Never been below 40°F and then in sealed bag to assimilate temp for half hour. That was 250 picture ago. Have had camera shut off a couple of times with the BG-E2 (not loose). Remove battery and reinstall- all good.

Canon's eamil only answer, send to NJ. Ugh. it is 4 months old.

Any suggestions before plopping in the box and off tho Canon?

Thanks in advance,
Bob

It's normal. IIRC, if you put an absolutely blank card into the bay, then remove it without having turned the camera on, you'll find that \DCIM\???CANON folder has been created as well. It's just updating the status of the camera/card/lens.

Let's be clear about this. Are we talking about the redeye/timer lamp on the front of the camera, or the (CF) access lamp on the rear by the rear dial?

This never happened before Saturday. I am talking about the lamp on the front of the camera to the right and slightly above the lense. Not the CF light.

Sorry - I was thinking of the back-panel light.
