First off, I'd like to say that I'm still learning, but I really love this photo of my 8 day old son. I'm by all definitions a beginner, but I hope to continue to learn more. I love having such wonderful inspiration :D

Congratulations, he is gorgeous. I think you did a great job as a beginner and you will find you will get even better with each photo you take - we have all been there. At least you have the perfect model and all these photos you take you will treasure for a lifetime. What may seem insignificant now you will treasure in 20 years time - keep up the good work.

very nice! What a great picture of your son!
Perhaps rotate counter-clock wise? Maybe convert to B&W or even something like sepia?

I was thinking that. When I took the picture, he was laying on Mommy at about a 45 degree angle. When I framed it, I rotated the camera to match, which I probably shouldn't have done. I'll give it a shot though.

You have some great gear for a nOOb, and a great picture! Congrats.
Which lens did you use?

I tried not to go too crazy with gear (no L glass yet), but I did buy some good stuff. My buddies mantra is buy the best, cry once. This stuff isn't the best of the best, but it's good.

This was with the 100mm macro at f/2.8. Great lens. Very sharp.

ooh . . . makes me ponder picking up the 100 at Circuit City after all . . . it does seem super sharp, and we're having a newborn any day now . . . hmm. . .
did you use flash or no flash?

No flash, just a fast aperture. I'm still trying to learn how to use my flash :)

Congrats! He's beautiful! If you're this good as a beginner, you'll be terrific when he's old enough to walk.
