The whole picture appears soft to me, did you take it using the kitlens?

It does seem a little out of focus

It is a little soft but is easily fixed with some sharpening. See the attached crop tas an example of what can be done easily:

Thanks guys.
Yes I did use the kit lens, which I always seem to have trouble getting into focus. Time to invest in something different I feel.
Thanks for that example of sharpening jgrussell, I did apply a bit of high pass, but I always worry I'm going to over do it!

I took some advice I got here... change your cameras focus point in the menu to "centered" and then focus on an eye or bridge of the nose. My formerly soft pictures are coming out much crisper.
Nice photo that you will cherish.

I agree with the focus issue. But that's already been addressed. I don't think the kit lens is your issue. I used to use this one all the time and had no problem I just did what 4bucks talked about i always used my center focus point. You can always focus on the closest eye and then while keeping your shutter button pressed recompose your shot. What focus point did you use?

You know, I don't remember which focal point I used now, but I do know that the only AF point I use on my camera settings now is the centre one.
Maybe I got a little camera shake or something, I'm not sure.
