Some one told me not to store the CF card in the camera because it could damage the card. Is this true or not? :?:

I have never heard that one, I leave a CF card in my 10D all the time and I have not had any problems.

Sounds wacky to me. What's going to happen to it in-camera that wouldn't while it's out (aside from getting stolen along with the camera as opposed to lost without it)?

i would say its better to leave the card in at all times and not remove it

I would think that the safest place for a cf card would be inside a camera where it is very well protected by all that metal and plastic. :D

No problems here either. I really don't see how it could be harmful.

No reason I can think of for not leaving it in; it's not like it leaks like a battery.

I always have one card in, just to be safe, the number of last minute shoots I've been asked to cover!

Haven't heard of that either, I have always left mine in with no problems, and no plans to change

You guys do know that if you leave in your CF card in too long, the card can leak juices and corrode your CF pins. Then your expensive camera will become unusable, or will require a costly CF module replacement.

Just kidding. :p

I think you should stop listening to whoever told you that.

Yes, I would say that storing the CF card inside the camera is pretty safe.

If you think about the way the CF interface connector works, this seems very safe. The contacts are not fatigued by constant contact, as they might be with a different connector design. I would not worry about it, but I would worry about the future advice the original poster gets like that.

The way I am, anything that could happen inside the camera will inevitably happen outside the camera faster.

I only take mine out to remove the photos (and like now, when its at service)

I've left cards in every digital camera I've ever owned with no problems......

I've heard that smearing peanut butter on your CF cards makes them store more photos. Can anyone confirm this?

no problems ever, My card rarely comes out.

Peanut butter increases the slickness so the digital 1's and 0's can move more easily, hence the speed increase.

Actually only if you use crunchy-style peanut butter...the concept is that nutty.

No problems here either. I have left my memory cards in all of my cameras. I think they are safer in the camera then out. Plus, it makes it alot harder for spontaneous pictures if I have to load the memory card.

For safety sake leave the card in the camera.
An unloaded camera is dangerous like an unloaded gun, it won't be ready when you need it!

If you really flatten the CF card, you can insert TWO in the same slot - thereby doubling your capacity.

Actually that applies to the battery if you will not be using the camera for a while (written in G3 manual). Don't know about the CF card.

I've heard that you should remove the battery - but not the card

You mean you can remove the CF card?

Maybe I can put something larger than that 32mb card in my Mk II.

When you remove the card do not forget to file or grind the edges off,
forming a nice sharp chisel shape .
This will indeed produce much sharper pictures.
also make sure to write on the C F card,

"Health and Safety warning ".

Handle with Care.
Razor sharp images inside.
Use safety L glasses and unsharp mask before handling ???????

Please Note..... this is only a joke
You dont really need L glass for safety goggles !!!

This sounds like nonsense.

Years ago I was able to convince the buyer and seller of a D30 (and most of the forum we were on) that the used D30 was almost worn out and that you could see visible wear because of the picture results (loss of saturation, sharpness, etc.) I expounded on how after several thousand exposures the sensors start losing some of their light gathering ability and that they naturally decay to the point that the pics are washed out, etc.

It was kinda fun. Hated to break the news to them that I was just pulling their chains. Could be someone is doing the same here?

I actaully read it some where that you should not leave your CF card in the camera, but thats only for long term storage. The reason I forgot....... :p :p

Maybe they dont want you to accidentally throw away a perfectly fine CF card when you camera dies from being store too long unused.

Yes but never use chunky, those whole peanuts can get in the way of the electricity

There is only one reason I can think of not to leave the CF card in the camera. When you go to sell that camera you never use any more and completely forgot those pictures you took of you and your girlfriend....

a friend of mine once insisted that he remove the lens of his camera after he`s finished with it, so he`d take a few snaps take it off put the body cap on the put it in his bag, 10 mins later back out the bag lens back on etc,, you can only imagine what his sensor must look like

OK surely you dont think I was joking above. well got to have a laugh sometimes.

My serious view about the original post above.
Put the card in the camera and leave it in there until you need to replace with next or load images onto computer etc.
learnt this long time ago after setting out to take an event, grabbed the empty camera body and of course came home with no pictures, also left bag plus spare cards at home. Never again.
