I have a Tamrac Expedition 5 (5275) M.A.S. backpack for my 20D and gear. When I travel, the backpack is full, i.e., no room for any new gear.

I will be picking up a new EF 300 f/4L lens next month when I travel to Austria, and I would like to buy a lens case/bag for this lens. When I travel back to Finland, from Austria, I do not want to put the lens in my Samsonite suitcase (SAS is well known for sending my luggage to "Turkey" in stead of "Turku"). Therefore, I need something to store the lens in, on the outside of the backpack.

I have found this accessory from B&H:

The internal length seems more than adequate for the almost 9" long, 2.6 lbs., EF 300 lens, although the pocket is a bit on the wide side. It also looks a bit "flimsy" IMHO, at least compared to some of the other Tamrac lens cases.

Could anyone with this lens and a Tamrac backpack, let me know if this is a good option? Or if not, please suggest something else?

Tamrac does make some other lens cases, but none seem to be using the MAS system.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Those pockets are for things other than lenses. They also make at least 2 different size lens pouches for the MAS system. You probably will need the large one. The lens pouches are padded well.

What Harry said. You need one of these (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=198713&is=REG) ... assuming it's large enough. I believe that's their largest MAS lens case.
