I am enjoying the raynox. It took a lot of practice and you are a little limited but if I choose my subject wisely I can salvage one.
This fella (gal?) was in my dill.

These are baby spiders that are no bigger then ticks. They were hatching by my compost heap. I didn't see the color in them till I took their pic

There are no threads on the SX10 lens. The Lensmate adaptor attaches to the bayonet mounting for the lens hood. Lensmate went a bit larger with the threads so that there would not be any loss of light. If there WERE threads on the SX10 lens, they would be 52mm. The adaptor uses 58mm. You can buy lens hoods that screw into the 58mm threads that would be on the filter in the adaptor. So, you can have the adaptor, a filter and a 58mm lens hood on.
I do not have my camera yet but am thinking about ordering this ahead of time along with some filters. I just do not get how the adapter attaches with no threads on the camera.
Does anyone have a pic of how it works?
Thanx in advance....Donna

It bayonets onto the fitting that Canon provided for attaching the lens hood. This means that you won't be able to use Canon's lens hood with the camera, and will need to get a 58 mm screw-in hood to fasten either to the filter holder or to your filter on the holder.

Jon

I use B+W MRC polarizers exclusively. Even the top Hoya (the $70 HMC Circular Polarizer) listed at Lensmate isn't Hoya's best multicoating. I'd suggest this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/9773-REG/B_W_66044840_58_mm_Circular_Polarizer.html) instead.

omg thats is really expensive!
what about the $22 hoya one on lensemate?

You get what you pay for. Multicoating cuts lens flare and reflections which seriously degrade you pictures. That filter lets around 5% of the light go toward messing up your photo. The S-HMC or B+W MRC let maybe 0.5% of it do so.

Do you know if we can fix a fisheye or something like that on the filter holder?
Jon

I wouldn't. The holder is attached to the front of the lens by a couple of small plastic flanges; the weight of an auxiliary lens would likely break them off.

I understand. Thank you for you answer.

Got an SX10 IS for my B'day yesterday! Just ordered the lens adapter and a circular polarizing filter. Do I need anything else? How do I put the adapter on. I think someone said it somehow hooks onto the lenshood?

It goes on INSTEAD OF the lens hood. You can also use close up filters and maybe use a haze filter ( UV filter) to protect your lens.

I bought a UV filter and a rubber hood for my SX10 IS from a well known camera shop in my area. Yes the hood is ugly, but as long as it works that's all that really counts - right?? One good thing about the rubber hood is it does collapse to make storage a lot easier.
The guy at the camera shop was all out of regular UV filters so he gave me a multicoated one for the same price -- can't beat that.
