Here are a some pictures from a night brush fire by a power substation and a daytime brush fire the next day in a field.

First, the nighttime fire by the power substation. Initial response was slowed searching for downed power lines. Turns out no lines were down, must have been a falling branch hitting the lines and then the flaming debris hitting the ground.

1. One side of the substation fire.

2. Looking from there towards the rest of the fire.

3. Spots of fire with lights from units mixed in.

4. Showing a bit of the substation itself.

And now the daytime fire. This was in a field south of town and spread by the gusty winds.

5. Looking downwind. No flames visible, but I like this view.

6. Another view downwind. I like the tire tracks heading that way.

7. Putting out the windward side of the fire.

Nice captures! How were you able to be so close? Are you involved with the fire dept. in some capacity? Hopefully nobody was injured.

I'm a member of our local fire company - not as a firefighter - but solely as our photographer. I have protective gear that identifies me as a member of the fire company and some training from them. That's what allows me to have much more freedom of movement than someone not a member of a fire company.

Nobody was hurt in either of these. I almost predicted the night fire. All the power lines feeding my neighborhood are underground. About 7:30pm our power went out for 5 seconds or so then came back on. My guess was that something had fallen against some of the big power lines and tripped them. Within 5 minutes the call went out for the fire by the substation.
