I am just about to order a 2nd flash, my question is can i use my 580exII and shoot that wirelessly from my cyber syncs and then use that to trigger say a 430ex as a slave??
or will i need to get another cyber sync receiver?

Also what is a decent flash to compliment the 580exII?

Eventually i want three flashes for car shots at night

I dont know about the 580ex being able to trigger a 430ex from cyber syncs, but I would advice picking up a manual flash and using another cybersync reciever or optical slave.
I just bought a vivitar 285hv and it is an absolutely wonderful off camera flash.

430ex~$200

285hv~ $80
Cybersync-$70 or optical slave~$20

$150/ $100 for a 285hv off camera that is as reliable and powerful as a 430ex

Just get another cyber sync that way you won't have to worry about it firing.

Since it is not using ETTL when you use the cybersyncs, you can't do the wireless E-ttl slave of the 430. So you need something else to trigger it in manual mode.

i tried to do the same, but there's a delay between the cybersync and the 580 as a master for the 430 slave. doesn't work. what you CAN do, if you don't mind having a cable between the two flashes is get a y-splitter ($7.99 @ Radio Shack) and a 20' extension cable for the 1/8 plug for the second flash ($12.99 @ RS).

As written above, the CyberSync-triggered 580EXII will not trigger a slave 430EXII. I would not waste the $8+$13 = $21 on a cable and splitter as mentioned by the previous poster, but would use that money towards getting another CS receiver.

Another possibility is to have the slave optically triggered by the CS-triggered 580EXII. You could either buy a cheap optical trigger for the 430EXII (or Vivitar as mentioned above) or -- instead of the 430EXII -- you could buy a speedlite that had a built-in optical trigger such as a Nikon, Sigma, or Nissin. But you get all the problems of an optical trigger when you do that. Even with that route, you can always buy another CS receiver later.
