there is always indoor photography! If outdoor is out of the question, go indoor like some aquariums or gardens. Thats what I did. :D

Dont want to mess w/ Mother nature!! ;)

Did you try pulling the grip away from the camera and look at the LCD on the top to see if the camera resets? I got my grip a few weeks ago, and I thought the grip was fine until drisley told me pull it away from the camera and watch the LCD, sure enough the camera reset. The trick was to add a piece of rubber on the end the contact that touches the battery door switch.

No problem on mine, even with the 580Ex and a long lens attached.

i havnt had aproblem with mine at all, i love it well worth the extra cost IMO over the one they have for the 300D, my buddy has that and it feels so cheap by comparsion. Adds so much more balance and control to the camera especially if you have bigget hands..

Actually I also did this pulling test. It does reset the camera. But I had to pull very hard. I am afraid that I will break it. This is what I have done.

Last Saturday I was out taking photos. I have my 20d w/ the grip, the flash mounted on top and had my canon 100 - 400 lense on. I did a couple of Portrait shots, so I was holding by the grip, and it is fine. I guess my lense is not heavy enough! Got to get that 70 - 200 f2.8....:p

my $0.02.

Before I applied the fix that drisely recommended, if I were to lightly pull the grip away from my camera it would reset. After I applied the fix, it takes a pretty hard pull to reset the camera. Since I think I solved my false battery indicator issue by always having a BP511a in the first compartment, I don't think I'm going to send in my grip to Canon yet, I love the way the grip feels and I can't imagine going back to a gripless 20D, especially since I heard horror stories regarding how slow the Canon service centers can be...

So, when you get the grip, is there anything else you need to get ... extra battery packs or use AAs? Anything else?

nope, as long as you have two batteries, you are good to go. But it comes with the AA cartridge, that will allow you to install 6 AA's instead of two BP511's.

So, I should order a second 511 when I order the grip? Any opinion on the other 51x's that are offered? Or are AAs the way to do? If 511s, I have only the original one pack charger that came with the 20D ... do I need to upgrade chargers? I couldn't find much help at B&H or Canon.

Dwight, check out the BP511's from http://sterlingtek.com , they work well and the prices are great.

when I ordered my grip, I got one battery with cam and orederd extra 3 batteries, this way I always have 2 set, even so one set always was enought for about 6 or more hours non-stop shooting.

About second charger... I'm still thinking... should I buy it or not...

This is how I've done mine all along:

Have 4 BP-511 batteries (1 B-511A that came with the 20D). One of my extra batteries came with a little charger of its own, so I can charge 2 batteries at a time. Charge up 2 and put them in the grip, which can literally last for a month or more if you're not doing tons of shooting, lots of chimping, flash, etc. Charge up the other 2 and put them in the bag to keep on-hand if you're going out and fear the batteries might die. Then when a pari goes dead, just recharge.

I actually have never run into a situation where my battery died, as it has amazing battery life. So now 2 of my batteries just kind of sitin my bag, though I do swap them around from time to time just to keep them in use.
