This is probably one of the few chances I'll get to actually see the president in person. So I want to make sure I can get a few good pics off. That's if they let me bring a camera in to where he's speaking to begin with.
I have a cannon EOS rebel 2000 (film) with a 28-80mm lens it's a fairly new camera and takes some great pictures. He is speaking in an in doors gymnasium. What settings would you guys use? Or would you just put it in point and shoot mode?
And for the record, I'm not trying to steal anyones ideas, just want a few tips about in-door shooting since the only way I can pull it off is in point and shoot mode.

Well, I don't know. You might get more responses if you didn't contradict yourself and end up by saying the only way you can pull it off is by putting it in point and shoot mode.
Edit: I think I understand now, but I still don't have any ideas for you. Hope you get some responses.

OK, OK. High ISO depending on the lighting. Shoot RAW so white balance can be corrected in post. Take test shots no matter what shooting mode you're in and check the histogram. Without knowing more details that's the best I can come up with.

Do you have a Speedlight such as a 420EX or 580EX? With that lens, it's probably the only way to guarantee getting the shot.
I'd use a Speedlight, get some ISO 400 film, set the camera in manual 1/3 to 2/3 stops away from wide open (to improve sharpness) and a shuttterspeed of 1/100s and fire away. Just have lots of fresh batteries and pay attention to the flash ready light so you don't take a shot before the flash is charged up.
The on-board flash is pretty useless unless you are within about 10-15 feet of him.

Not quite yet, I have been shopping around for the 420EX though.
Guess it doesn't really matter now though. I went to get tickets at 7 this morning and there were already 600 people there to do the same. Oh well, thanks anyway guys.
