A few that I took this weekend. As hard as I try, I'm having difficulty getting the whole body in the shot. I don't have any room on the sidelines or the base line. A 85mm on a crop body is tough! The first few were taken with the 70-200.

Where are you aiming with your center point focus? You can aim for the chest or hips to frame the shot. You don't have to focus on the face. It'll help to get all the body parts.
OR, go ahead and get in real tight. Forget about the whole body and just fill the frame with upper halves. It's tougher to do, but moms love seeing their babies faces! All of your pictures have great faces, but I'm sure they'd be soft if you cropped in tight. You'll have to zoom in that 70-200 or walk in with your 85.
It seems like you're trying to include the rim in your shots, which is great for taller high school guys, and is always recommended on this board, but it's not reasonable for the little guys. It would be better to shoot tighter and lose the rim like you did in #5-6-7, you're just not in tight enough. Fill the frame before you click. It's extra important in Bkball where the lighting is so tough.
You have great timing on your shots! Keep it up.
Regards,
John

John,
thanks for the CC. You are right about the pictures being soft if you zoomed in but I only have two Vivitars 285 and I still have the ISO at 800. When I use the 70-200 I have to set the flashes to full power. If I miss the shot, I have to wait 5-6 seconds to shot again. Usually the actions has already moved on down the court. ( I know, cry me a river right.;))
I'll try again next weekend and use the 70-200 and zoom in more and see how it turns out. Thanks again for the help.
