I've never seen this mentioned here (altho' it certainly could have been). I print a LOT of black and white or monotones and have been considering for several years making my 1280 a dedicated black and white printer using MIS 3rd party inks and using curves. However--there is a terrific RIP for the 2200 (and other printers, primarily Epsons) for monotone that permits you to use either the OEM inks or MIS 3rd party inks so that you can continue to print color and black and white. I demoed it (Quadtone RIP) for several weeks and finally paid my very reasonable 'shareware' amount of $50. There is quite a bit of support on 2 forums/maillists also for those that are totally new to this.
BTW--I shoot in RAW, process in PS, print with QTR (for monotone--you can also print from Qimage) on 2200 with the OEM inks on a variety of papers altho' I particulary like really good matte papers for my black/white. There is a PC and a Mac version.

Hope this is helpful for some of you.
