The MMA business- I haven't shot an event since September- almost 6 months. I'm blackballed from 2 local promotions and one venue for refusing to give away work. Other promotions don't want to hire me because paying a photographer is blasphemous in this industry; they'll just settle for the free pics that any number of "photographers" will gladly give them just for the privledge of shooting. So, for the time being, I'm shooting kickboxing. I'm not paid to show up for that either; I either generate sales on my own or I don't get paid. On the plus side, I've been approached by an MMA publication recently for a 1 1/3 page photo/article in which they've agreed to my asking price without any of the BS negotiating I've had to do with other mags. I've also got a few upcoming BJJ seminar dates to shoot. With that I've expanded my titles to "Combat Sports Photographer" and "Music Photographer" since MMA has been becoming a smaller part of the bigger picture as of late.

Thanks, Mikel. Lighting wise, that was one of my favorite venues- all shots were taken in ambient light.

I wonder how her shots are turning out.

great shots, lighting is a real plus. The last one in the original post would make a great poster for the gym where he trains.
