Profoto D1 (250, 500, 1000)

Well profoto decided to smarten up their monolight line and updated the compact line with the D1 in 3 flavors 250, 500, 1000 ws, 7 stop range, 0.10 steps, 110/220v, fast recycle time, etc. http://www.profoto.com/D1/index.php the photographer in the videos talk that the units can be used with "battery packs" but no further explanation on this issue -well not yet since i haven't seen all the videos) but if it is compatible with the innovatronix it looks like a nice option -dependant on the price of course-

Nop, but I guess it will be around the price of the older Compact units.

Too bad i don't have this brand, and i didn't know about that new head until my friend the Hasselblad/Profoto salesman told me that there is a new head, even a group from Profoto visited the store there yesterday and today, and today he told me that they try that new head D1 there, so i am sure he can tell me about the prices.

Profoto seriously needs to re-think some of their pricing tactics...the pro D1 Air is $1,159.95.... seriously the price is idiotic at best, some may argue that is Profoto quality, blah, blah, blah, but the price it is simply too much for 1 monolight, their 1000ws version costs $1650.00 almost the price of a ranger RX kit :/, in this economy they must be on non known drugs if they think they can get someone to buy one of those units, the profoto Compact R 600 is like 696 bucks, the Elinchrom 600RX is $859.00 -if top of the line is what you are searching for these are a better value option-

the Profoto D1's are breaking news to me (and i came straight to this forum to find more info). Anyways, for the past two weeks i've been looking at the Compact 600Rs, then when i called Vistek to order some, they told me that they are soon going to be replaced by new models (D1's), so now i'm back to square one doing some more research. I liked the 600Rs because i could use them with PocketWizards, now that the D1s are out, i think you have to buy their own wireless trigger - the Air - what am i going to do with my PWs now?

Maybe i should look at the Elinchroms again...
