After so many posts complaining about their 20D I intentionally went out yesterday without the 1DMKII to force myself to use the 20D. I'm not sure what the issue is but I certainly don't have any with mine. The following image was shot in RAW, processed in RSE and the only thing I did was levels and resize, no sharpening applied.

Keep that shot handy and when people whine about soft this, soft that, just post the photo and it speaks very well.
We haven't used our's much yet, but it'll start getting a major workout here soon.

Maybe we're lucky, Sheldon, but I consistently get those kind of results from my 20D. Wonderfully sharp images right out of the camera (Parameter 2).

Sheldon, nice photo!
Jay, I don't think it's luck that gets you and Sheldon sharp photos.

Is it sharp enough to see the owl hidden up there in the bell tower?

Beastly fellow!
What this shows is that under a nice crisp light you will get nice crsip pics
The complaints about the softness (yes I was one culprit) came from pics in diffuse light and from lack of experience with CR2 files
Give us a break - we're learning!

Well being "one" of those that you talk about complaining about focus.I think its a matter of who's doing the focusing. There are certain lenses which seem to focus better for sure and others which will allways be sharper(L lenses).I come from a background where everything was manual focusing and it was using a split screen and made things very easy to focus.Letting the camera do the focusing is almost a necessory since doing it manually is not very easy without the split screen for me anyways. I don't hate my 20D and am still getting used to it.Its basically only a tool and one which we depend on.before with film most maybe 85% were usually in focus.Right now I can count on maybe 65-70% If that. But its also a matter of getting used to where the camera "thinks" I want to focus.Quite a change for a lot of us and quite an investment. This is my only camera at present. It would be nice to have more but this is what I have and I need to count on it.I've also had an error 99 problem, even though I have the latest software or firmware If you prefer.
Its hopefully just a matter of getting used to eveything.

I am sorry but when i magnify it 4000 times the 148th pixel from the left in the 15th row of the third of the little black tubs is just a bit fuzzy.

Looking at that image again, i have reevaluated my opinion. There is a technical word I'm looking for................poop. (Scott techie word). There is something definitely wrong with that camera. I'll pick it up tonight and give is a check over for a few months. Better toss in the poopy (another techie word) 500 f/4 that doesn't focus worth doo-doo (yet another techie word) and I'll check them both out at the same time.:p:p

I would think by 3000%, everything would look fuzzy. I guess you have a better eye then I do. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gifhttp://photography-on-the.net/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif
