Purchased the camera just before Christmas. Yesterday it started acting up. I would go to take a picture and the screen to see the shot was black. When I tried to just snap the shot w/o being able to see the subject it was also black. The first couple of times it only took one or two times of taking black shots for it to clear up and I could take pictures normally. The last time it happened it took better than 1/2 a dozen shots - turning it on and off a couple of times to get the problem to correct it's self.

Was this indoors or out? Were you able to use the LCD to compose, or wasn't that working either? Was the lens cover opening fully?

It happened both inside and outside. First time I was inside the second outside..

How can you tell on these if the lens is open? What is LCD? Sorry for such a novice.

The LCD is the panel on the back. And look at the front of the camera when it's turned off - you'll see the lens cover across the front of the lens. Then see if it's still there when you turn the camera on (in Capture mode, not Display) and the lens has extended.

Thanks - next time I will do that.
