The bar for the owl shots has been so high by Ian that I am almost reluctant to post anything. I went out this afternoon (yet again after he had called me). It was a dark, wet afternoon so I tried using my beamer which I haven't used very much at all. It certainly makes the eyes stand out.

Basically it gives you greater range with your flash. It intesifies the output as well to the point where you have to stop down by a couple of stops, depending on the distance.

Where did you get your beamer? I've been looking for one, but I'm apparently not using the correct search words on B&H's site.
Very nice pics, by the way.

Haveīnt seen Ianīs pics yet. But iīll do that asap.
Could it be that the owl on the second photo is squinting with itīs right eye or is it me squinting?

This is where we ordered the Better Beamer from. Good folks to deal with. Just make sure you order the correct model for your flash.

You have to be real careful using the beamer on a sunny day as fill flash. The lens in front can act as a magnifing glass and fry the bejeebers out of your flash head. It has also been know to burn holes in car seats. When not in use, it is best to cover over the lens with a piece of cloth. I've rigged up a slide on camo sock to cover mine. It works.
