My DJ name is "dj Spiral", so I just use that. As far as how I got that name, I believe fractal spirals are embedded in every aspect of reality in one way or another. Anyone who has seen the movie "Pi" probably has an idea of what I mean. That movie clicked with me like crazy because it nails it.

The Tong-Master
Griff was at the barbecue and Joel was at the barbecue and I was at the barbecue; three men standing around a barbecue, sipping beer, staring at sausages, rolling them backwards and forwards, never leaving them alone.
We didn't know why we were at the barbecue; we were just drawn there like moths to a flame. The barbecue was a powerful gravitational force, a man-magnet.
Joel said the thin ones could use a turn, I said yeah I reckon the thin ones could use a turn, Griff said yeah they really need a turn it was a unanimous turning decision.
Griff was the a true artist, he gave a couple of practice snaps of his long silver tongs, SNAP SNAP, before moving in, prodding, teasing, and with an elegant flick of his wrist, rolling them onto their little backs. A lesser tong-man would've flicked too hard; the sausages would've gone full circle, back to where they started. Nice, I said. The others went yeah.
Kevin was passing us, he heard the siren-song- sizzle of the snags, the barbecue was calling, beckoning, Kevinnnnn ...come. He stuck his head in and said any room? We said yeah and began the barbecue shuffle. Griff shuffled to the left, Joel shuffled to the left, I shuffled to the left, Kevin slipped in beside me, and we sipped our beer. Now there were four of us staring at sausages, and Griff gave me the nod, my cue.
I was second-in-command, and I had to take the raw sausages out of the plastic bag and lay them on the barbecue; not too close together, not too far apart, curl them into each other's bodies like lovers -fat ones, thin ones, herbed and continental. The chipolatas were tiny; they could easily slip down between the grill, falling into the molten hot-bead-nether world below. Carefully I laid them sideways across the grill, clever thinking.
Griff snapped his tongs with approval; there was no greater barbecue honour. P.J. came along, he said looking good, looking good ? the irresistible lure of the barbecue had pulled him in too. We said yeah and did the shuffle, left, left, left, left, he slipped in beside Kevin, and we sipped our beer.
Five men, lots of sausages. Joel was the Fork-pronger; he had the fork that pronged the tough hides of the Bavarian bratwursts and he showed a lot of promise. Stabbing away eagerly, leaving perfect little vampire holes up and down the casing. P.J. was shaking his head, he said I reckon they cook better if you don't poke them. There was a long silence, you could have heard a chipolata drop, and this newcomer was a rabble-rouser, bringing in his crazy ideas from outside. He didn't understand the hierarchy; first the Tong-master, then the Sausage-layer, then the Fork-pronger –and every one below was just a watcher. Maybe eventually they'll move up the ladder, but for now don't rock the Weber.
Dianne popped her head in; hmmm, smells good, she said. She was trying to jostle into the circle; we closed ranks, pulling our heads down and our shoulders in, mumbling yeah yeah yeah, but making no room for her. She was keen, going round to the far side of the barbecue, heading for the only available space . . . the gap in the circle where all the smoke and ashes blew. Nobody could survive the gap; Dianne was going to try. She stood there stubbornly, smoke blinding her eyes, ashes filling her nostrils, sausage fat spattering all over her arms and face. Until she couldn't take it anymore, she gave up, backed off.
Kevin waited till she was gone and sipped his beer. We sipped our beer, yeah. Griff handed me his tongs. I looked at him and he nodded. I knew what was happening, I'd waited a long time for this moment - the abdication. The tongs weighed heavy in my hands, firm in my grip - was I ready for the responsibility? Yes, I was. I held them up high and they glinted in the sun.
Don't forget to turn the thin ones Griff said as he walked away from the barbecue, disappearing toward the house. Yeah I called back, I will, I will. I snapped them twice, SNAP SNAP, before moving in, prodding, teasing, and with an elegant flick of my wrist, rolling them back onto their little bellies. I was a natural, I was the TONG-MASTER

My comes from several years ago when I needed a shorter username for my fantasy football league. My daughter wanted my attention when I was trying to think of a name and so I asked her what I should use, she came up with huskie, which was her school's mascot. Wasn't to bad for a kindergartener, so I used it.

Officially, I'm Sergeant First Class Malone. An old Soldier of mine coined "Lord Malone". He was a French Canadian kid. Served with him during my first tour in Iraq in 2003. I always gave him a ton of taskings to do. One day he goes "Is there anything else I can do for you Lord Malone?". I just laughed. Kept the name ever since.

OK, this sounds geekier then it really is: I found a website once that let you type in your name and it would tell you what your "elf" and "hobbit" names were. :o I tried it for fun, then pretty much forgot about it. Awhile later I was trying to register at a website and every user name I was coming up with was already taken. Then I remembered my elf and hobbit names...Saralonde sounded better than Ruby Burrows so Saralonde I became. Never found anyone else using that name!LOL

My name is Kaylene, so my screen name could be misleading, but its not meant to be, it's just one I choose a while ago and it stuck and is easy for me to remember.
I just like the name "Rachelle," not said like Rachel, but Ra-Shell, really long story..., but if I had to change my name, and could pick my new one, it'd be Rachelle, and added "bee" cause I was born and raised in Utah, "the beehive state," and my # is 27, but I'm only 23.

Thanks! Like your name too. I like it, just didn't so much a few years ago when it was an "oldies" name. I had never heard of anyone with my name that wasn't a good 30 years older than me. I'm incredibly original.. it's the e-mail i've had since I was about fourteen.. and I just don't have enough imagination to change it.. Sara-vorheese is my first name... Sara without an H because my mother got pissed at my grandfather telling her that she needed to give my twin and I biblical names and name us after our grandmothers.. So, to spite him she left the H off.. but, she did give us our grandmothers names.. but their middle ones instead of first, again to make my grandfather mad.. Anyway, there both double names.. My sister is Megan-Lorraine after our maternal grandmother who happens to be mostly Irish.. My paternal grandmother was named Helene Vorheese, I believe her middle name was her godmother's last name.. so, there is my grandmother and my oldest aunt and me.. we all got stuck with it.. But, because of the whole huge name thing we were given ridiculous nicknames.. I got luckier than my sister being called Sari.. My twin is called Muggs... unfortunately her husband is the only person that doesn't call her that.. we both tried to change it as we were going up but it never worked..

Mine can sound weird (or funny) in english.
My last name is Crop (which could be a good source of nicknames on a photography forum). When I went into my engineering school in France, I went through a hazing by the sophomore students (an old French tradition which is now forbidden). To identify ourselves, we had to wear a T-shirt with our first and last name on it.
Some guy took a marker and changed Crop into Crapo (which phonetically means "toad" in French). It was filmed, and since then, all my friends call me Krapo (the spelling changed slightly).
Usually, when I tell my nickname to an english native speaker, they all have the same reaction :) They laugh, and I can hear them thinking (if only that dumb froggy knew what it means...). That makes me grin even more :D

Wombats are short, fat, bad-tempered and stuborn. Strong as oxes and smart as rocks. They spend most of the day in bed only coming out of their warrens to eat or mate. Their personal hygine leaves a lot to be desired and they are forever stealing food.
My wife thought it appropriate.

I lived in Nairobi for several years and ran my own Safari business. I've been to Zim a lot of times. spent time in Harare and Bulawayo both. it's a shame what is happening there. All my friends lost their land and moved out. Now I still goto Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. I'm headed to Botwana in October. Then it's back to Egypt and Ethiopia.

I've spent some time in Tanzania. Do you go for the migration? I can't remember - what time of year is that? I always wanted to go for that, but when we left Zim it wasn't on great terms (you know the Zim story)...and I haven't been back. I'd LOVE to go to Egypt tho! :)

So one day, I found myself making espresso (which happens regularly throughout the day) while giving some thought to a new name. Thought of using espressomaker and I just it for everything now cause it is never taken.

Wow, I thought I'd already posted here... strange!
At any rate, Xepherys is a play on Zephyrus or Zephyr who is the Greek god of the West Wind. Aside from being slightly incestuous (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anemoi#West_wind), I've always been interested in this figure since a mythology class in middle school. After a few failed e-personae in the early 90's, I settles on Xepherus and the Xepherys, which I've used for uhh... 10 or 11 years now.

It has nothing to do with RSS feeds which were created long after

Yes, I didn't want FOUR names (so pretentious - haha) and I didn't want to give up my maiden name (strong woman thing) but I did want to take my husband's name (stand by your man), so I dropped Iris, and tacked his name on the end. :)

"tracer bullet" was one of Calvin's (of Calvin & Hobbes) alter egos. I have always been a huge fan of the strip, and was often compared to Calvin by my friends. Using Calvin as an online name wasn't much fun, so I thought of another that was related. I typically used it as my log-on for playing PC shooter games like Half-Life or Unreal Torunament. When online bulletin boards became popular, I used it there as well. And I have been ever since.

Elphaba
15th of August 2006 (Tue), 18:40
Ok... don't mean to write a novella, here... but here goes:
It's from my favorite musical, Wicked, and the book "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West". Elphaba is the Wicked Witch of the West... a highly intelligent, misunderstood girl and animal crusader that was condemned instantly for her green skin and then when she wouldn't use her powers to do bad things for the Wizard (help spy on the talking animals via flying monkeys, so as to bring them back under human control), all of Oz was made to believe that she was a wicked witch. She ended up a recluse, traveling by broom, trying to do right for those that the Wizard had wronged. Where as my skin isn't green, I do have markings on my face that have brought me much teasing and hurtful words... while I don't save flying monkeys and talking animals, I do crusade for animal rights, with cats being my main focus. I'm a recluse that enjoys traveling alone (with camera in hand, mind you) and my love for the night (I'm an astronomer...) and forensics (I love a good scientific challenge and forensics offers that...) tends to make people think I am utterly strange. (I'm not strange... I prefer "eccentric".) So... I feel like I am an "Elphaba"... :)

My name is not john...
When I first used the internet back in 1997 I needed a name for email and the like and chose Jiggling_john. It's stuck with me ever since and I use it everywhere. Where does it come from? Well...
There's a welsh guy who lives next door and he's rather strange. He's nocturnal, never changes out of his pyjamas and sits in front of the tv all day, jiggling his legs up and down, wiping is brow with a grey flannel and holding a small stuffed penguin... You'd think I'd made it up, but it's true. He jiggles that much there are marks in the carpet from his feet and the sofa is going threadbare....
So, um, there you go. My real name is....

I was a procurement specialist at Nortel... the week after I got hired, they let got the first of 60 000 people. Intead of being on the management track for supply chain/logistics as promised, I ended up being a small cog, like Dilbert; that and they fired me when my daughter was three weeks old (she's now four, you can see her here (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=208106)). So, I put the two together... and it also explains my avatar.
