Hi,
hope this is the right area to post this?

I get a 'File format module cannot parse the file' error message when trying to open a CR2 file in photoshop CS, on Apple G4 1.5 laptop with 500 MB memory
Closed all other files in case was a memory thing - but PHSP had 10 more CR2 files opened fine previously before I closed them
The preview seems to show in the finder but can't get any further
???

Also_ another file came out completely black - is this an out of memory thing?

thanks

That's odd. If you want you can email the RAW to me and i'll try on PS CS on windows. Look at my home page (http://mrwild.co.nz/) for my email address. Going to bed soon but will do it in the morning if Isee a file there.

Click on the CR2 link

I have tried to upload the one that comes out black here - hope it works

There's something very, very weird going on with that file. When the preview initially flashed up in the PS CS file browser (latest version of the raw plugin on win XP) I saw a preview, but then it went black. I have to guess that the embedded jpg is ok, but the RAW data is corrupt some how. How, I have no idea.

IrfanView can view RAW files, but it seems to just display the embedded JPG in this case - not sure if I installed the plugin pack, but I think I did. It can view the JPG fine, and i've attached what it shows (high JPG compression).

Hope that helps, but it doesn't really answer your question.

If you want to put the other CR2 file on your site i'll have a look at that too, for what it's worth, probably tomorrow morning my time, going to bed now.

Edit - turns out the image in Irfanview was 1536 pixels wide, I just reposted it as 800 pixels wide as a preview.

Thanks- yes it is wierd isn't it?
I also can get the jpeg to display but not the raw

This is off a standard Scandisk 1GB CF card, which was swopped for a 1GB scandisk ultra 2 wich was giving me pink lines down the side on one or two pics

I'm not having much luck with these CF cards

Could it be the camera?
20D?

What are the most reliable cards and should I get these swopped again?

I don't expect answers to all these Q's but whatever is known please share

thanks

Sandisk are a reliable brand, I have two 1GB Ultra II card and i've never had a problem. If you've had two cards and both are giving you problems i'd have to guess it's the camera, return it for replacement if it's new or for service if it's under warranty. You could try another CF card to make sure, if you wanted, it's a very weird problem, one i've never heard of before.

Hopefully Bob will pop his head in, he's good with this sort of thing.

I've just opened my new 20D and have a similar problem. My 300D creates RAW CRW files which I've never had any problems with in PhotoShop CS. The 20D creates RAW CR2 files which PS does not seem to recognise. Am I right in assuming that CR2 should be compatible with PS-CS?

You need to download the latest version (2.4) of ACR.

I have v2.4 so it's not that, and it had no prob opening the other CR2 files

Anyway the camera is being replaced (taps foot.....)
maybe my other concerns about the camera weren't unfounded after all?

We'll soon see

Adobe Camera Raw - it lets PS CS read CRW/CR2 files. Go to the Adobe sit, hit support, choose photoshop CS, then RAW 2.4 update.

I have all the latest updates and that file is still bad. PSCS wont touch it, just gives a black screen.
DPP opens it fine though
