Ok, so This was my first time out with my friends Rebel XTi and 70-300mm IS lens. I have since bought an XSi and upgraded from my good old Pentax Film which I worked in black and white with. I lightened it a bit and tweaked the contrast( dark horse in dark tree's was hard to see),I am just starting out in digital and taking a few courses to improve my skills, what does everyone think? thanks so much for your feed back!

Welcome to the board!
For a critique of your photo, please accept this as constructive, and don't think I'm being mean...
Your background is not good. The building is distracting.
The crop could also use some work, there's not enough room below the horse, and too much room to the right. Leaving a bit of space for the horse to run into is good, but not so much in this shot. It would also help to have the sun at your back.
Keep at it!
John
Think about where to position yourself the next time for nice backgrounds, and try to get the entire horse in the shot.

Welcome to the forum! I agree about finding good position when possible, and about getting the entire horse in the photo. You have interesting subject matter, hope to see more posts from you!
