The components should do you fine. Only thing I would change are the HD's...I have had bad luck with Western Digital over the years. I prefer to use Seagate Harddrives...

Good Luck!

Purely anecdotal. I have never had a WD drive fail or give me any trouble. I just built my new PC with the Antec 300 and I'm sure you'll be impressed by the airflow it affords. I thought about adding an additional fan in front, but found I didn't need it. Otherwise, I like your selection of components. It fits my philosophy of high performance while still conservative and conventional. This is a PC that will remain reliable for several years.

Purely anecdotal.

Yes...it is EXACTLY. That is why I said I PREFER Seagate drives. My intent was not to bash WD, only to enlighten the OP on my experiences.

Seagates are excellent too... never had one fail or give me any trouble! :)

After my problems with Seagate and their recent problems, I try to avoid them at all costs.

We're building a low buck storage server at work. It just needs to be big, not necessarily fast. We got an Adaptec 2252700-R raid controller and 20 Seagate 1 TB drives (ST31000333AS). The raid controller won't see the drives. The official answer from Adaptec is that the drives need the latest firmware update. Great no big deal, just have to flash a ton of drives. But.... We can't apply the firmware that the adaptec controller requires because the official answer from Seagate is that the new firmware bricks the drives, so it won't run.

And it gets better, the rocket scientist building the server threw away all of the static bags, shipping box and packing materials, so we can't return the drives to CDW.

Seagate's position is that we need to wait for the next firmware release (SD3B), they will not replace the drives.

We've made our last Seagate purchase.

Sorry to hijack the thread... :)
