I have a desktop that is hooked via Ethernet cable to the DSL modem. The modem also serves as a wireless router, which my laptops use as their internet link.

What I want to do is to be able to transfer files directly from the laptop to the desktop and back, as well as from one laptop to the other.

I am running XP on everything.

I am not expecting detailed instructions here - after all, this is a photography forum - but I am hoping that someone knows of a website similar to POTN, that is geared toward general computing.

TIA

In theory all you would have to do is make sure all the computers are on the same workgroup which you can change by right clicking on my computer>properties and there should be a tab for computer name if I remember. So all machines should be set to the same workgroup name. Then you have to share a folder on each machine so that you can transfer files back and forth. To create a share folder just create a new folder or right click on an existing one and select sharing. It will then ask if you want to share the folder on the network. Thats really all you should have to do.
