Hey there, it is a preset we have created in LR3. It was available for purchase off our website months ago in a zip file of 5 presets.FBC&Ccolour, FBC&Cb+w, FBC&Cflare, FBC&Cvivid and FBC&Csepia.

We have removed it as we have been getting so many email requests. We will make it available again at a later date.

Thanks Michael. We hit up about 12-18 homes at best. Quite a bit of walking for the little guy but he seemed to have fun. :lol: "tri--ko--tree"

Not sure if because Halloween landed on a Monday (work night, Monday Night Football, or because economy isn't so good) but it felt like fewer people were handing out candies this year so the walk between houses was greater than last year.

Only with a feeding tub, the baby should be ok back home with the family soon.

Then you'll have 'night-duty' for the next 6 - 9 months ;) Lucky us, we all got throught that stage long time ago :lol:

what are peoples opinions on using this lens with a 7D or using it on a 1.6 crop sensor in general. Who has done it/does it?

I have a 40D, so even on that, the shots are not bad. Can only be better on a 7D.

I love it on a 60D. This entire blog post ( starting about 8 photos down with the kid in the angry bird costume ) is shot with a 60D + 24L II.

The 24L II would pair perfectly with your 50L!

I couldn't find a good AF copy of the 24L II so I went for 35 ;) First one - razor sharp and great accuracy :).

But still sometimes I'm lacking 24mm... got to have both!

A few members here, myself included, had AF issues with this lens (sent it in to Canon twice, another member it took 5 or 6 times!), but once it gets dialed in the results are stunning. Either way, the 35L is legendary, you can't go wrong with either.

Yea, I did this too, I use the 24 on my 60D as sort of a poor mans 35L :-}. I really love 50 and I thought 35 and 50 was to close so I went with the 24.

Finaly I became an owner of this L prime.
After first lookouts I've find out the 35L has much better sides Af points. That's a little minus but... central point works as should. Cant wait for test field during wedding actions.

Thanks ; ) I used Lightroom 2. Lowered vibrance and saturation. Adjusted shadow and highlight hue and saturation. Bumped up contrast and adjusted White Balance.

No issues here. Very easy to miss focus at 1.4 but some of the peoples issues I've seen look like more than just user error. I guess a few lemons always sneak by.

How is the 24l mk2 compared to the 24mm at 24-70l?
The 24-70 is really a 26-68, so the AoV is a little larger. This is only noticeable when shooting them side by side.

The 24L II is an F/1.4 lens, so two whole stops faster than 24-70, which is quite a lot :D. The 24L is also amazing in that everything is sharp, corner to corner, and it has very little field curvature for a 24 mm - the 24-70 has quite a lot, and I found I really had to take this into account when shooting at large apertures and when shooting portraits while using centre point AF.

The 24L is distinctly sharper, at any aperture, except at MFD and 24 mm, where the 24-70 may just, and only just, beat it. A few cm further than MFD, and/or stopped down a little beyond F/2.8, the 24L beats the 24-70 also at MFD.

That's my experience, anyway, HTH.

It is a preset we have created in LR3. It was available for purchase on our website months ago, some people are using it here, came in a set of 5 FBC&C presets in a zip file. We have removed it temporarily and will be available again later on.

Folks, if you combine Landscape and Street/Documentary type of photography, which lens will you chose - Zeiss 21 of Canon 24 F/1.4 II, assuming the price is identical?

Alex you are all over the map, at least you have good taste.

If it were me

Landscape - 16-35L, 17-40L, TS-E 17L, TS-E 24LII, Zeiss 21
Street/Documentary - 24LII, 35L, 50L
For Both Landscape and Street - 24LII

My choices

Thanks for the kind explanation.

I am actually rather amature in photography, Just changed from 17-40l to 24Lii as I wasnt satisfied with the 17-40l sharpness despite at f8 (not sure if i got a soft copy).

While I am rather satisfied with my 24mm ii, sticking to a prime limits my shots hence the reason I am looking at 24-70l, just wondering how is the 24-70L's IQ (contrast and sharpness) at the same aperature as compared to the 24L?

Well, as mentioned, at MFD, 24 mm and F/2.8 the 24-70L is slightly better, at MFD, 24 mm and F/4 they are equal, at F/5.6 the 24L II is better again, and at all other distances the 24L II easily beats the 24-70L.

BTW, I just checked my test photographs of reall life subjects I used for testing, and some brick wall shots: funnily enough the 24-70 only is better at MFD when the 24L II is at F/2.8 and at F/1.4, at F/2 it beats the 24-70L at F/2.8, just with slightly less DoF.

Also, the 24L II looks sharper in the OOF areas, and has slightly better bokeh, and finally, especially close-up the AoV is significantly different. At the same close-up distance (tripod used) the magnification is clearly higher with 24-70L than with 24L. And with a relatively large field curvature, the 24-70L is less good at shooting brick walls head on, there is a lot more loss of detail in the corners.

Sharpness of the 24L II generally is a little better, as is contrast (hence the more detail in OOF areas) and whether you will notice is also a matter of magnification, print wise that is.

However, where a 24L really shines, IMO, is in dimly lit scenes, where you'd use an aperture larger than F/2.8. Rendering is absolutely marvelous in these conditions, and one of the reasons why I own and use this lens (even though it is very good at landscapes too :D).

The 24L II actually provides the IQ on FF that the old 24L (Mk I) gave on APS-C, with only the centre part of the image used and at a much larger AoV of course :D. The II does this over the entire, full AoV on FF.

Finally my new 24 1.4 II L lens has arrived.. greeting from Mexico and you guys made me jump in the bandwagon!...... i've learned a lot from you guys.. i guess i'll post some pictures with it!! i also own the 17-40 L but at F4 i lose a lot in dimly lit scenes... hopefully i will enjoy this marvelous lens!!

I shoot people usually and like AF for that so I would go with the 35L. If I shot landscapes and architecture Zeiss and TS-E lenses would be my main focus. Would I like to have some of both sure but they would not get used that much.

Knowing me when it is time to get a 24mm I am likely to buy the 24LII, back to the people and AF thing. I do not shoot at 24mm so often so my 24-70L covers it now.
