bought one refurbed like you said. Got it right from Canon, I feel better about that fact since its probably been calibrated to spec if it was no doubt out of spec or had to have parts replaced. We'll see. :)
I have struggled with this because the 16-35 is an attractive lens too but i already have two zooms...

I was thinking of trying to shoot a good deal of the wedding with 24mm 1.4 on one body and 50mm 1.2 on the other, these are a couple of my top focal lengths used but at a point in my carrer some time ago i decided the image quality was excellent with the 24-70 & 70-200 and i wouldn't be sacrificing anything. Its a pain to change out lenses with a lot of primes but if i plan well it prob wont be a prob.

I guess mainly i want the images to pop more and so at $1700 not sure if that is worth it but if my clients see special work done with the lenses it may mean more work.

Still I would like feedback from some wedding people about the lens.

Canon had my lens to me by 10am this morning overnighted. I am pretty impressed with the out of focus properties. I am just struggling with consistency. Is this an issue with this lens? Do you have to shoot a few to make sure you get it? I am going to go with not MFA due to the fact i will get more consistant results with this kind of DOF. I'll test it on the other bodies when i get a chance.

How does it focus with far away subjects? From what i have read you want to be closer to your subjects when you shoot with shallow, if any of you guys that have a lot of lens time could offer some tips or suggestions i'd really appreciate it!

Was this for fun or was there a reason to do a goth shoot? Its pretty cool, your of camera flash hit it well. Were you radio triggering or did you use a soft box and battery? Just curious because it worked well.

One other suggestion i think you should know. Yesterday I read that putting filters on the 24 screws up the focus, I confirm that to be true. I usually don't use filters on any lenses unless i need polarization.
No post processing just med fine jpegs too. Beautiful color right out from the 5DM3 camera.

I did look at the pixel kings just last week. The Pixel Knight looks more like how the Pocket Wizard TT system works with hypersync and manual.

I just sent my wizards in with a letter to them. Pretty disappointed at their product and how many hoops you need to jump through for them to work. After doing the factory resets i still had issues so i sent them.

It probably just coincides with the normal March Canon Rebate program since they were offering a $140 off the 24 new if i remember right. I had been researching it so much that i missed the fact that march came to a close because when i called my local store Apr 1st the price was back to normal...The only thing about refurbs is if you want to sell them its not a good selling point and there is no factory box or manual. Personally i don't see myself selling it like i sold my 35 1.4.
I am really impressed with the 24 so far. I am going to experiment with the 12mm extension tube ring for wide macros.

I'm quite tortured at the moment. I'm considering canceling my 5D mark iii preorder and buying a 24L and 50L instead. I've played with a 5D3, it was sweet, but it's not going to do (with a 24-70) what a 24L and 50L can deliver. Anyone else feeling what I'm saying???

Had to ask. Would you part with your beloved prime for a fancy new body? Or is there just no substitute?

:) He's doing fantastic. Thanks for asking. The boy's growing like a weed (not the smoke-able kind). :lol: He's 2yr2mo and testing his boundaries every chance he gets.

I had 2 cats before too and I had to get rid of them because one of them didn't play along with my son. Was a tough decision: Cats... vs. son. (Well, cats would've been much cheaper, I'll tell you that much.) ;)

Love the food photos but the one with mother and daughter is just amazing! I like that you framed it with her smile just showing. It looks straight outta the camera in framing since it was not perfect but just right. Little details like that are awesome!

Very nice BW conversion. If you bring the darks out and work with the whites you will get a more dramatic sky with white beams busting thru too. I'll do an edit and post if you like.

I have both and I agree with you, that the 16-35 can pretty much replace the 24L in a lot of cases. For me, I use the 24L for extreme low-light, so the much larger aperture and sharper corners are what it's main advantage for me owning both.
