if I had $1600 to waste I would definitely get one, it's a beautiful lens that makes fantastic images but too bad I don't shoot often at this focal length so I decided to return it.
makes some interesting head shots and great for street/all around lens

Awesome shots as usual Todd ! :D

Guess you have noticed what happens with this lens at f/1.4 ? I own it too and I was surprised to see that the stars in the corners of the frame have a swallow shape.
It's almost like the rotation of the sky is noticeable. I suppose it gets better at f/2, but then you have to bump up he ISO.

Do you make a bit of light painting on the rocks in the foreground ?

Thanks! Yes, I light painted the foreground rocks and I had a flash going off in the next valley over, which lit the far wall.

Yes, I've totally noticed it and it drives me nuts. I end up stopping down to about ƒ2 as you said, or in some cases, I tend to crop out the extreme corners which helps lose the vignette and some of the worst offending stars.

It's my only gripe with this lens.

Found this by accident. It used to be a small town out in west Texas. Now, it's essentially just one fairly large general store. No signs of life anywhere around and it's eerily silent. It's also full of rattlesnakes too! :eek:

I agree, but for a UWA, it’s pretty impressive.
My 85L II and 70-200 II racked out obviously has a more pleasing bokeh but that’s because of the compression. Every mm has it’s own compression and bokeh...
Having said that, the bokeh is awesome compared to the 240-70L and 24-105

It really has nothing to do with compression (quality of the bokeh) but lens design. It appears to be harder to design a lens with a shorter focal length that doesn't use a lot of exotic glass.

I agree, but for a UWA, it’s pretty impressive.
My 85L II and 70-200 II racked out obviously has a more pleasing bokeh but that’s because of the compression. Every mm has it’s own compression and bokeh...
Having said that, the bokeh is awesome compared to the 240-70L and 24-105
this is the best priem walkaround lens period

Just picked up one in like-new condition off the POTN Classifieds. One of the first shots, goofing around with the pets:

The DoF is so thin one eye is pretty well in focus while the other is not, with just a slight head turn. Cropped on the left and top, because Phoebe doesn't like a big camera lens in her face, so I had to make a quick shot without much chance to compose.

Finally had a chance to play with this new-to-me lens. I had some concerns about whether it was front-focusing (noticeable at f/1.4 and focus distances of beyond 10 feet), but I think that it is mostly me over-reacting to my pixel-peeping, and that a better body with MA would make this issue disappear. Oddly enough, my sig other didn't flinch when I said that...just said "maybe next year if you get a bonus or promotion".

Come on 7DII, come on! Get announced, released, and tested by Christmas! I'd also settle for a 70D if it had MA...

Roses in the garden, nearest rose is close to MFD, @f/1.4, 1/4000sec (and overexposed, but saved in DPP thanks to RAW), no cropping. Wafer-thin DoF:

Yummy beers. The Petrus Aged Pale was a nice sour (pictured in photo 2), and the Petrus Oud Bruin was well-rounded and just a good overall balance - not nearly as sour as the Pale.
