I love both the 35L and the 24L on my 5DII. They provide a very different look through my wife's 7D (or my 40D) of course- the 24 becomes a moderate wide-angle 38mm f1.4 and the 35 becomes a "normal" 56mm f1.4.
So for us, they really provide four different uses given the three different bodies.
But then again- I never met an L lens I didn't like! Just look at my gear list

^^^That + it beats 35L in colors/saturation/contrast straight IMO.
Golfhack - that's true too. I actually may not sell (although I am thinking ) 35L afterall. Whatever I buy I just never seem to sell it later on even if it is just sitting in dry box all the time.

Isn't THAT the truth! And the times I HAVE sold a lens, I almost ALWAYS get "sellers remorse" later and all-too-often turn around and buy the lens a second time!
On the other hand, quality glass has always tended to go UP in value over the years compared to what was originally paid for it- which is more than I can say for some of my stock investments and God knows savings accounts and CD's aren't paying anything these days!!
Besides- can a man (or woman) EVER own too much glass?

Got this yesterday at one of my favorite spots. Only shot that really came out ok. The weather was uncooperative.
5DmkII + 24LII + LCW Vari-ND = 30sec exposure during daylight. It cut some of the sharpness because it's not as high quality as a Singh Ray filter but it works for video.

I cant commit to either body. I love some of the 7D's features, but I have always wanted full frame. Im coming from a 40D and I want to buy either body with one lens. The 24 seems to fit with both bodies or 35L with 5D, but I can make up my damn mind. Saving a few hundred with the 7D doesnt seem bad either.

Quick question.
Does AF speed or FPS matter to you?
I much prefer using my prime lenses on my 5D vs the 7D, I find that mine (7D) behaves much better with my zooms.

It all depends on what you are shooting. It'd recommend the 24L II + 7D or 35L + 5D mark II. If you buy the 5D classic, you can have both the 24L mark I and the 35L. According to my copy of the 24L, I don't find the 24L mark I to be a slouch.

First off - Why are you still at work? Haha.
Second - What doesn't look right? It was intentionally cross processed so it will look pretty blue/green by design. The colors were so bland that day I thought I had to spice it up a bit and do something with it haha!

First off - Why are you still at work? Haha.
Second - What doesn't look right? It was intentionally cross processed so it will look pretty blue/green by design. The colors were so bland that day I thought I had to spice it up a bit and do something with it haha!
Thank you though, I admire a lot of the work you post so that means a lot to me to get some feedback!
I don't like to crit photos at work. The crappy TN work monitors aren't good at determining color. I'm at work bcoz' hospitals don't close. :) Thanks for the kind words too. :)

Do you find it to be night and day?

Do you find it to be night and day?
If I may answer here too :D:
I got an offer for my 24L Mk I which was very close to the new price, so I went ahead with it and got the 24L II as a result.
The 24L II is better, but not necessarily 600 euros better. However, I guess that is what always happens. The II is better in the corners, and it seems to have a flatter image field, less field curvature IOW. The latter you will notice especially when photographing flat objects head on at larger apertures. Rendering is very good. AF is a little more accurate (probably because of the lesser field curvature), it has a little more vignetting, and it has less CA. Most of this you will only notice when studying large prints in detail, however. It also is better when it comes to flare and ghosting. It did retain the great colour SOOC, and the great handling and rendition of (very) low light shots.
All in all a lot of small steps, which made an already excellent lens even more excellent.
However, I would have been happy to continu shooting with the Mk I, if it hadn't been for that fantastic offer.
IOW, it is not night and day. More like a very bright day vs an extremely bright day :D. The not completely polished edges were polished better, as it were.
Kind regards, Wim

All done in Lightroom. I used a preset that bumps up recovery to 20, fill to 40, the blacks to 50, contrast to 73, vibrance 40 and dials down saturation to -70. I then adjusted the brightness a little. That was it! Probably 99% of my PP is done in LR now. I bought CS5 but I'm thinking I wasted the money.

Agreed. I've got one for my 5DmkII and I had the RRS bracket for my 1DmkIII when I still had it. However I didn't buy RRS for my 7D, I didn't like the bottom foot design. I went with Kirk for that one. Largely the same quality and a bit cheaper since I picked it up from B&H.

Interesting problem with this lens on the weekend.
I tested it out briefly, and it seems every second shot was front focussed, by about 10-15 centimeters.
It wasn't a scientific test (I'll do something more concrete tonight), but the test was:
-Set up a remote control at a 45 degree angle on it's side on a table
-focus on one button on the remote
-shoot!
For the first shot, the button was always in focus. But every time I tried it again, the focus would drift to the front by about 10cm. Anyone experienced this? I don't mind if the lens front focuses too much, because the Mk IV can compensate for it (though I'll need to get Canon to adjust the 5D for me). But I thought that if a lens front focussed, it would do it for every shot, not every second shot? (which begs the question, why the second shot? Why not the first?)
Anyway, I'm going to set up tonight and do a more comprehensive test and see what happens.

I say test it w/ the 5D first and see. If the 5D is consistent, then the problem lies in the 1D4, or the combination of the 1D4 + the 24L

I've seen this before with fast lenses. Once focus is achieved, and you try to focus again, it focuses somewhere else. It probably is caused by the camera trying to refocus, and possibly residual spherical aberrations in the lens, although with a WA lens it may also be triggered partly by the AF point seeing a little too much causing the camera to try and focus on the next high contrast transition within the view of the AF point selected. This is one of the reasons why I have relegated AF to the *- or AF-ON-button for Single Shot Mode photography.
Regardless, I am interested to hear what your results are.
Kind regards, Wim
