I have a Canon Rebel XTi and various lenses that I use for most of my picture taking. I also have a Canon VIXIA HF10 video camera for taking videos.

My little junky point and shoot that I carry around with me in my purse is just about to give out, and I'd really like to get a video camera that I can make short clips with, of my kids, my dogs, nothing more than 4 minutes or so. I was thinking of getting a Flip Video, but now that my P&S is on its way out, I was wondering if I could get something with both.

So what I need is a small P&S camera that I can fit in my small purse, decent quality (I won't be playing with settings like I do on my SLR, just quick photos), but with pretty good quality video. Video quality being the more important feature. I also would like to spend $250 or less.

Is there something like this out there or am I better off buying a Flip Video and just getting a cheap P&S?

Thanks for your help!

if vga is all you need then a SD1100 or the new SD1200 will work for you, if you need hd video a P&S with hd will cost more than your budget

Not sure how much they're gonna be, but why not wait for one of the new SD series cameras to come out (780, 960 and 970). They apparently shoot video in 720p HD at 30fps.

That's what I'm doing. Well I'm not picking up an SD series. I'm looking at getting the Canon SX200 IS (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=144&modelid=18329) which does 720p HD and has a 28-336mm zoom. I just sold my Canon SD550 to help fund the new purchase next month. :)

My daughter's new A1000 IS takes surprisingly good videos. I think she uses it more in that mode now than she does shooting stills.

Best,
