Was looking at getting wein safe syncs, but they are too expensive, and I definitely cant afford shipping to India.

There is a local manufacturer of spares, optical triggers etc here in india, and one of the items listed on his site is:

http://www.soniaphoto.com/products.php?cno=14

Multipurpose Hot Shoe Professional

It has 2 PC male outlets, a check fire button and an insulated cold shoe on the top. Permits the use of the two flashunits of the same type simultaneously off-the-camera. The insulated cold shoe protects the flashunit from the short-circuit
This does not mean that it will dampen the high voltage from an older flash does it?

Cheers
Ajay

ajay!
it wont protect your cam. check your flashguns voltage with multimeter. maybe its ok using sync cable.

Picked up a used Vivitar 285HV today from a local shop for abt 40USD (at current exchange rates). No manual or anything, but I guess with the help of this forum, I shall get by....

But beware. Just because you have the HV does not mean you are safe! Test it!

Most HV versions are safe but some were manufactured in other countries and were not.:( Read here the 3rd and 4th paragraph:

Now you tell me :(

Plan to take my flashes to a chap who runs a camera repair service. Hopefully he should be having a voltmeter, and more imp he should understand what I am talking abt. Today afternoon, prior to picking this unit up, i went to a retailer well known locally and he showed a starblitz flash. When I asked him abt the trigger voltage he gave me a blank look and said- its safe to use with ur DSLR.
