Not worth it. The replacement LCD cover is so inexpensive, it doesn't matter.

Just something to get in the way. Wear a hat to shade the LCD if it's bright out.

i thought it was a great idea at first until opening and closing the latch system got to be a pain in the ass when in a hurry and try and show someone a picture on teh screen and they try and close it...they'll nearly break it every time! lol

Is that a DIY repair. Mine has a few scratches on it but I don't want to send it to Canon and wait months to get it back. It would be great to just order the part.

Yes, it is. The part's about $20. You can lift it off with a suction cup and the replacement attaches with double-stick tape. Not that Canon USA is likely to take months to replace it - anything I've had to send in has been back in days, not months.

Thanks for the info on the part.
About 3 months after I got my 40D, I had an error msg. I sent it into Canon (NJ) It took over 2 months, and getting Canon Corporate involved to get the camera back to me. At one point they told me they didn't have a special tool that was needed to repair it, that's when I called corporate. "you designed and manufactured the camera and don't have the tools??" Two days later the camera was at my doorstep.
They had to replace the Shutter and mirror box assembly.

You would think a hood helps to view the LCD, but the overall ambient brightness defeats good viewing even if direct sunlight is not striking the LCD!

Not in a month of sundays.
They are a pain in the posterior all the time and, on those odd occasions when a hood might be useful, it is still quicker to shade it with a hand than fanny around with the hood (not to mention cheaper).
