I just updated the firmware on my 1DM2 from 1.1.0 to the new 1.2.0. I'm usually not one to get excited about code, but the difference in low light AF performance is huge! This was supposed to have been fixed in the 1.1.0, but the improvement in mine was marginal. I had come to accept the 1DM2's low light AF as just a small downside to otherwise outstanding performance. No longer. This is a must do update.

Odd. That wasn't even part of the update. But, hey, if it makes your camera a happy-camper then that's a good thing. :)

OK, Scott. I just updated mine. Now I'm go to go and learn Russian and Chinese so that I can take full advantage of the new update. ;)

I don't know about the low light situation. I just updated the firmware from 1.1.0 to 1.2.1, and still won't focus in low light. ST-E2 is going back on like usual.

I sat across a black living room using the inauspicuous 28-135 IS at f/5.6 and had no trouble locking focus on a dim VCR clock and also a small dim red light that lets you know there is power to my DVD player.

Yes. You didn't notice that with 1.1? I noticed a huge difference with 1.1.

There is no camera that has a perfect AF system and they all have problems in low-light. The only answer is the ST-E2 which will focus in complete, 100% darkness.

My new firmware came with the w-suffix indicating warewolf modification. No light needed at all. :p

Darn, you should have installed the we-suffixed version (for werewolf). With that version, every time there's a full moon out, your 1DmkII will metamorphose into a monster 1DSmkII (with a capital 'S")!
