Our church does an ARK Day (Acts of Random Kindness) once a month and is planning an outreach in the Dallas Texas area for May 30, 2009. We are taking 100 family portraits for people that live in one of the Dallas projects/Dallas Housing Authority and need volunteer photographers, editors and printers that can work onsite. We would prefer that you have your own equipment but if you dont have equipment to use we can still use your help in many other ways. We will photograph, edit, print and frame all on site the same day. This is for families that otherwise would never be able to have a family portrait made. We will begin at 9:30am and will finish around 3pm. We will have a minimum of 25 volunteers to make it all happen in one day. If you would like to donate your time to provide a family portrait for people in need please email me at brentwallace@dallasdreamcenter.net or brentwallace@dallasmetro.net

If you want to know more about our organization you can visit our website at http://www.dallasmetro.net

EDIT:
We had alot of fun today! I think the families were very happy with the portraits and they loved all of the photographers and assistants. I hope you guys had as much fun as I did and we definitely have to do this again. To all of the volunteers, thank you guys for all your hard work. You made today possible and because of your hard work and great attitude you made it successful.

As it gets closer I'll be able to let you know better, but I'm in College Station and might be able to drive up and help out.

Thank you guys very much. I know it is very early but for people that have hectic schedules I wanted to get the word out as soon as possible. I hope to see you there.

I laughed at the similarity between my username and your project name.

Unfortunately, I live in Canada, but I do wish you guys the best of luck!

Our church is planning an outreach in the Dallas Texas area for May 30, 2009. We do an ARK Day (Acts of Random Kindness) once a month. I talked to a guy on our staff that is from Houston and if all goes well with the ARK Day in Dallas we may be up for an event like this in Houston. He knows a very good photographer from Houston that would probably be willing to help too. I will let you know sometime in June.

We have the location confirmed for May 30. It will be at Frazier Courts/Fellowship which is one of Dallas' government projects managed by Dallas Housing Authority (DHA). I also have two confirmed photographers and four others that said they would like to but haven't committed yet.

Thank you very much for everyone involved.

What's the situation for editing? Will editors need to bring their own machines? I might be able to dig one or two people up.

We will have at least 3 pc laptops if someone shows up and doesn't have their computer. It is best to bring one if you have one since we may not have software you are used to. You are are coming as a photographer though, right?

Yeah, I'll be there as a shooter, but my wife MAY be available to edit (probably busy, though). We don't have Lightroom on a laptop, so that's why I was curious.

edit: not sure how many families you are anticipating having there, but I can do quick edits of my own pics if it boils down to that.

picasa 3.0 might be a quicker workflow for the amount of people you will be taking photos of. it's a free download, try it and give it a run through. it will save alot of time from editing.

You can download a trial version if you want to use your own machine. That is what we are doing for the laptops we provide.

I don't want anything to slow us down so I would prefer that each editor use what he/she is used to using. Also, lightroom is pretty fast if the computer can keep up.

Agreed, great fun and great cause. My legs are pretty sore from all of the running around, but definitely worth it!
