Those were with flash - turned it off. These were taken as moving.http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/SSPV/IMG_0178.jpghttp://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/SSPV/IMG_0179.jpg

I the sky got better a little later, so I jumped in the SUV and went out to this point that I saw a couple of days ago when my camera didn't work right  and got these: It did help to have my vacuum tri-pod, as I could put it on the hood of the vehicle and be there - boom.
With flash the sky looked better

Without flash

Actually by the time I had gotten to the spot, most of the pink in the sky was gone.
Also found this eagle's nest. (This was without the tri-pod.)

first off need to post a larger picture, make them 800X600 and save for web, then we can get a better idea, but as far as what I can see is, you need to bump the ISO up to get a higher shutter speed, that will help with blur, I will wait till I see a bigger pic to critiqe more

Hi Dymphna,
Since you are fairly new to this forum - welcome to POTN!!!
About resizing your images - do you have any software like Photoshop Elements etc.?
Also no need to use flash for landscape pictures - flash only works for a few feet. If you are totally new to photography, use the different Modes - on a dial (should check your manual which one is landscape). What kind of a camera do you have?
You say you are in Montana - I live just across the border from you and I know how beautiful the big sky is at times!
I hope this helps a little bit.
Good luck,
Elfie

What part of Alberta? I grew up in Wolf Point, about 150 south of Regina, (got left there over night when my folks were supposed to pick me up on Saturday instead of Sunday - but that was an adventure for a 15 year old many years ago). And I did spent time at Frog Lake as a kid with my cousins.

I have a simple Power Shot SD880 IS. I love looking at the sky. I wish there was some way I could capture it. But getting composition on sky - well, that is going to take some learning LOL.

I am downloading the free version of Picasa right now. Hopefully I can change it on that one.

After taking these pictures last night - I woke up to several inches of snow this morning. I need more global warming! Stat. LOL
