The soft lens case that came with my 24-105 is too large for it. I am guessing it is meant for lens storage with the hood on, but not sure.
I am looking for a heavier quality/durable case for the 24-105 that will store it snugly without the hood. Any recommendation?
Thanks

Tamrac makes some nice cases. Check out their web site

I bought the Tamrac MX5378. It fits the 24-105 like a glove.

I have a few Lowepro lens cases, they are very nice. Don't own the 24-105, so I am not sure what size you'll need, but they used to have a listing on their website with popular lenses and the corresponding lens case.

Indeed the Lowepro brand has nicely padded cases for lenses, but I found them to be too thick and consuming more space that the Tamrac brand. I like to keep lenses in individual cases inside the larger gear bag, so I didn't need a heavy duty lens case.

Ah, ok. I might have to check Tamrac out sometime, as from time to time I also like to keep them in a larger bag. So what's the difference to the Lowepro brand - less padding?

Yes, basically less padding from what I see checking both out at the store.

The case that comes with it fits it nicely with the hood, without it is a bit large like you said though.
Might want to look at the Think Tank bags as well, I dont know which one would fit best, but they have some nice lens bags.
