Question about monitor calibration

Hello, I just got an HP LP2475w, great monitor. I downloaded the .icc profile from TFTCentral.com and changed the brightness, contrast, and color settings to match their calibration. So my question is can I use someone else's calibration and settings or should I do my own. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... I don't see where you downloaded a profile from TFTCentral.com, but to answer your question, it IS better to calibrate your own monitor rather than using a "canned" profile. Who knows.. It may work fine, but there are too many variables in manufacturing, and calibrations need periodic updating as your monitor "drifts". Hardware calibration under your own environmental conditions is best.

While it is most likely better than nothing, it is also far from foolproof.

Your best bet is to get or borrow a calibrator that can handle this wide gamut monitor, Spyder3, EyeOne Display2, etc, and do your own calibration. That is the only way you can get the best results for the monitor actually sitting in front of you.

Yeah, thats what I figure. Just wanted to get some advice before I go out and buy a calibrator. Thanks.
