NCAA baseball season started today across the country, including the first ever Big Ten-Big East Challenge in Clearwater, FL. Flying in from Buffalo you'd think it'd be warm, nope, 45 degrees when leaving after shooting 3 full games and the starting pitchers only of one team night since I'll see them tomorrow in better light. Photographers need to get the dust off just like the players, some random samples as I haven't sorted much yet of the 1,500 or so images shot all day. 4 games tomorrow, 5 Sunday to go...
Mark IIn, 400 2.8 IS, f/2.8, ISO and shutter all over the place in M 99% of the time with exposure changing throughout the day. EXIF embedded, and C&C welcome.

#2 - Getting caught in the run down, he was tagged out after a quick chase.

#3 - Changing from the hitter to the fielders meant a quick exposure change, hit the darn button in the wrong direction so made this hot.

#4 - Sitting on the low step of the dugout trying to shoot up as he heads to third...

#5 - Had two plays at the plate, Michigan had a rough start but won it in the bottom of the 9th.

Ahhhh, Janes will get us good images, we're not worried about that... What's concerning is the quotes. These aren't up to the Janes standard! We miss the stories and details Mike! "#6 One of the top prospects..." but no name? C'Mon! :)
Still nice to see your stuff again. -John

Yea, what's up with the cold front following me in? Wearing shorts and a BP jacket yesterday had to put on a bigger jacket over it just to keep kinda warm and hide in a side building at the stadium at times.
Which, besides the obvious one, are the whites blown out? I'm on my laptop so not sure how they look on a calibrated monitor yet. I can guess 7 is on his backside since he's going into the shadow, and the ones shooting into the sun a bit that exposing for faces instead of the jersey. 3 is just my dumb mistake.

Ha, I was BEAT after the game and dead tired right now trying to wake up and get going to the stadium just moving slow! Maybe Sunday where I shoot the most games but end the earliest, 4pm or so and will have more time and be able to sleep in on Monday, then can describe more :)
#6 is Chris Fetter, a 6'8" senior who's ranked in the top 100 prospects according to Baseball America. Led the league in wins, innings pitched, and ERA I do believe last year. He looked good in that game.

Great shots all round. 2 and 5 are good since they show off a part of the play rather than just the player, but the rest are all good too.

Thanks, I am shooting mostly stock type so most of the images with other players won't see the light of day in print unfortunately.

Mike,
Great shots.
You still in town? I'm a former "neighbor" of yours (Irondequoit). Been down here 10 years. I'm shooting the Bruins-Lightning in a few hours.
PM if you want to get together and talk shop.
Thanks,
Stu.

Mike... nice job. #5 IMHO is the best... I see you have a 400 now... you
were fantastic with a 300 but should be able to kick it up a notch now...
BTW: Are you in the Tampa area this week? we're flying into Tampa
(parents in Sarasota) tuesday morning...

Thanks Stu, I'm in town until Thursday though shooting every day except tomorrow and that will be spent sorting, sorting, sorting, sorting, oh yea, and sorting, ha. Staying over in Clearwater, might shoot a high school game on Tuesday, or USF, in Tampa but not sure yet. One of those or driving down to Gainesville. Gonna be hard to go back to the snow!

Thanks, got some better ones yesterday that stuck out that need to dig through and find.

Yup, got it a few weeks ago and this was the first big test. Shot a hockey game and that's it so far before all this, so far been great! Still have the 300 to use in smaller stadiums of course.
I'm in Tampa until Thursday, flying out after shooting a Spring Training game. Tuesday is either a high school or college game, Wed/Thur both ST games.

Mike, quit bitchin. 45 is still way better than what Buffalo (or Cleveland) serves up this time of year. If you really thought it was bad, just remember the Bills/Browns game and you'll feel like 45 is the Carribean!
Images..
#1 is great stock
#2 doesn't get me too excited
#3 despite being hot, I really like this, most should be recoverable in post
#4 LOVE the perspective and it allowed some light under that helmet which makes the exposure on the face great.
#5 best of the series Mike
#6 again, solid stock
#7 this "pose" never gets old, fix your horizon though
#8 best exposure of the group imo, horizon is just ever so slightly off but I bet there's no room to crop so leave it be.
On a non image note, I like the new watermark so much better than what you were doing this past year. Looks really professional and should fit well with what you've been working on in the FSI site.
How'd you love the 400 down there?
