My daughter (in the first picture) is interested in learning how to take pictures. So I set her up with the 5D and a 50mm lens and showed her how to use an incident meter and shoot the camera manually.

She metered me with an incident meter, picked her own ISO, aperture and shutter speed and took the second picture below. I think that she is off to a good start.

Yes she is!! And she's beautiful too. Camera looks great on her.

Geez, my first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye...

She's off to a great start. I think teaching her how to use the manual controls is great, but I hope you won't dissuade her from using Tv or Av mode.

Sure, I'll teach her the other modes once she is comfortable with picking her own exposures. First I want her to have a firm grap of reciprocity and the effects of her choices on things like DOF and motion.

Congratulations Jeffrey you have a talented daughter there. It is lovely as a parent when one of your children decides to share a hobby with you. By the time she is an adult I'm sure she will be an accomplished photographer.

Very nice - now stick a 70-200mm and a battery pack on the 5D and let her carry it around all day to build up her photography muscles!

(I'm doing the same with my wife at the moment - I think your daughter is learning faster....)
