If in the PMA an eos '500d' is announced and if its to rival the nikon d90 what would the likely price in £'s be body only, would it sit at the 450d current price point so forcing a cut in the price of the 450d?

I'll hasten a guess in USD. I would think a 500D would list for around $900 w/the kit lens, which is what the 450D cost when it came out. Then the 450D would be discontinued, as was the 400D when it was superseded. The street price of discontinued models, so long as there is stock left on the shelves, always drops. In short: Yes.

I thought it didn't start till tomorrow?
I do hope there's a fancy new Rebel entry; with a D40 replacement likely to be announced, Canon needs to step up.
I just hope it isn't so fancy that I feel the need to get rid of my XSi :)

PMA starts tomorrow... GZ at opening a 3rd PMA thread in the same subforum :-S
As for the 500D, my guess is there is only about 10% chance it will come at this pma. Everything points at it still being at a 18 month cycle, it wouldn't make financial sense for Canon, there has been NO rise in rumors lately, if anything, only rumors against it showing up in the PMAs and finally, Canon would have already announced it on a press conference in the last week or two, they rarely ever make a double announcement, and they already announced the 2 TSE lenses. Anyway, I think what was to be seen from Canon was seen....

Only things announced today (at the sneak peak thing, for the press...), were some hyrbrid cameras from Samsung and Panasonic...

According to NikonRumors, there will be no new Nikon DSLRs at PMA. This is worrying to me because the D40, released in 2006, is definitely in need of an update. The D60--which is a mediocre parts bin solution--is not the answer. A D300 replacement is also due this year.
I don't think the XSi needs to be replaced. It came out last year!

^Tomorrow. It's not looking to be fun for anyone. The only new DSLR is the Olympus E-620. :-/

Yeah I was thinking we might see a new 1D but knew it was a slimmer chance... I think both Nikon and Canon are looking to burn off what is likley a good bit of inventory before pushing out new product, they'd hardly be the first company in this downturn to slow up new releases.

NikonRumors says that the D5000 will be released at this PMA, although there is some debate as to whether it's a P&S or a DSLR with a swivel LCD screen ... but that's the fun of rumors isn't it?

Not to mention fewer outlets for sales. Circuit City has gone down, so has Ritz/Wolf Camera. Rumor has it Best Buy is also struggling. Oddly enough, my local pro shop seems to be doing quite well. I'm glad of it, though since I appreciate the service that goes along with the sale.
