I love the 1.6 factor of the Redel XT.
With 1.6 factor + 1.4 TXII + 135mm f/2.0L, the whole combination become 302.4mm f/2.8L at less than USD1,000. Yet in very light weight and maintain the sharpest.

Hmm, look at the aperture and the lighting. I think he had no choice.

It's all relative though...because todays 300mm f/2.8 lenses become nearly 500mm f/2.8 lenses for $3500, when the 500mm f/4 is $5300.
Either way, it's a killer setup :-D

I thought it didn't quite work that way... isn't it that you get the viewing angle as though it were 1.6x greater, but the magnification itself is only what's on the lens? Therefore, a 100mm shot is only as wide as it it were a 160mm shot, but the magnification is still only 100mm... correct?

I use the 135F2L with the 1.4x extender all the time. There is little or no difference in image quality. It's amazing!
The auto focus is slightly slower though, probably closer to the speed of an L zoom.

Where can I get 300 f/2.8 @ $3500, it cost me $4100 last year.

BTW This is no 300mm. The 1.6 crop facter just changes the FOV not magnification. It looks like its zoomed more but its not.
In this case one could just get a 70-200 f2.8 sigma and because crop facter have 320mm f2.8. The crop facter means didly squat

135mm is verynice and I love its bokeh. This is one of the lens on my wish list.
I think the crop factor would not affect the magnification factor in tele lense, but it's great for wildlife shooting as the subject can fill in the frame more fully.
Perhaps one of the major benefits of digital SLR is to make the cost of shooting very long end lower than ever. However, for a guy who shoots DSLR from the first day he enters the threshold of photography and keeps shooting with DSLR, he wouldn't feel the benefit of DSLR in shooting with tele lens since he never compares it with film camera shooting. :) :) :)
