Very nice, say... don't you ever run out of bugs :) or are they actually your pets...

Very nice shots Brian. Maybe it's just that I'm from Quebec, but it looks as if the Springtail in your first photo is alpine skiing!

Wonder if a closer shot of the Springtail in photo#5 would reveal something eating it ??
More bugs please !

Have a great day!

Beautiful set. Esp. like the slug/springtail. Hard to believe you can get such sharp photos of the springtails at higher mags.

Thanks for the comments :)

Fernando - tend to find springtails in slightly damp situations often in the morning- eg often in fallen damp leaves.

I find it a mystery how you can get so close and focus so well with these bugs. I am trying to learn the proper approach but, they always seem to wait until I am just ready to push the shutter then....they are gone. Almost like they are playing with me. :)

Thanks EB and Alan for the comments :)

Same answer to both questions really- it takes a bit of practice.

Alan- obviously I only get pics of the bugs that don't fly away (many do). One trick I use is to test how sensitve the subject is either by temporarily shading the subject or by trying to hold the leaf/twig the bug is on. If it takes no notice of me doing this then I move in for the kill.
