I'm looking to replace the joke of a strap that came on my 40D. I'm a pretty big guy, 6' 1" and 235lbs. I mostly carry with the strap over my shoulder, but would like to occasionally carry across my chest. I've been looking at the Crumpler Industry Disgrace and the Pacsafe 100. I've also looked at the Black Rapid straps, but I can't see any way to bring myself to spend $50 on a glorified camera strap. Heck, the Crumpler is stretching my willingness at $25-30. It sure seems that the companies that make straps must think everybody in the photography world is 5" 9" and 160lbs or smaller.

So, big guys please speak up. What works for you?

I use the POTN strap with extenders. This allows me to carry my 5D with 70-200 2.8 IS cross my chest with the strap on my right shoulder. It's very comfortable. I think you can get the set up for under $30. It is worth it.

When you say you'd like to carry it across your chest, do you mean in Rapid R style? If so, you could DIY a strap that's as long as you want--webbing is only like $0.35/foot.

Exactly, sort of. Primarily I want a good comfortable shoulder/neck strap that has enough length to wear across the chest occasionally as I need it.

I'm 6' and 240 lbs. I too wanted a camera strap that I can wear across my chest. The Canon strap that came with my 5D was not long enough to feel comfortable if I wore it this way. I decided to try the Domke Gripper 1.5" camera strap for an upcoming trip. It is slightly longer than the Canon EOS strap which allows me to achieve the strap-across-the-chest method of carrying my camera. I think it is more comfortable as well because of its simple design. Having the swivel is also great because it prevents the straps from tangling like the EOS strap. Finally, I like the understated design that doesn't scream out the brand name.
