I am looking for a program that I can sort and rename base on the time the photo is created. I need it since I have to combine pictures from 2 - 3 cameras into 1 folder and I would like to be about to sort them base on the time the photo is taken and then rename them. That way every thing will be in order.

Thanks for your help

Download a 30 day trial of Downloader Pro 1.6.2 from http://www.breezesys.com/

It will do all you ask and a lot more.

I think Elements 3 does this too.

Another vote for Downloader Pro. I store my photos with the data/time format of:

YYYYMMDD_HHMM_xxxx.CRW, where xxxx is the unique image counter number, the rest is date and time. Downloader Pro does this all for me, including putting them in the correct directories (and making those directories if necessary). Top bit of software.

Cheers

I use breezebrowser pro. It has many renaming options and if any of them doesn't fit you can make your own customized naming convention.

I came across this program a few minutes ago. Haven't tried it out yet, but it seems to have good reviews. Also, it's free. Not sure if it will work for my 20D though.

Yes, you can use any field from the image EXIF data, or file attributes, among several other options.

I haven't checked but can't ZBrowser (comes with the software pkg) do mulitple file name changes based on time? I know I redid most of mine to the date taken files as well as adding in a brief desc. and placed them into individualized folders based on that information.

Bodog, can you explain a bit more on the steps? The way I do renaming is select a group of pictures and right click rename. You mean theres other ways?

Thanks

I use this and it has a huge array of options for coming up with your own naming scheme.

Sure, just select the thumnails you want to renamed, then choose batch rename from the TOOLS menu. (depending on your setup, there may a rename button showing on the menu bar. Or, right click and choose rename) A dialogue will open with the template using the current name highlighted. Assuming you want to use the same names, but with the date added as a prefix, place the cursor in front of the current template, then click on the METADATA button. The FILE PROPERTIES or EXIF DATA trees both have dates you can use. Just select the one you want and the right window of the dialogue will now show the new names. If that is what you want, click START RENAME. If not, cancel out and adjust the options to your liking. BTW, the date format can be changed under TOOLS>OPTIONS. Hope this helps.
