I took out my 5D mk2 for a macro run yesterday to see how i like it for macro. I usually use the 40D or once in a while the 1D. What a difference shooting with the 5D. I mostly shot with the MPE yesterday. I found it tough to get close to the subject. The FOV is so much wider. I didnt like it much. The good thing was the view finder. Usually the MPE gets dark when shooting at high magnification. It did get dark but not as much. Here is my only decent shot from yesterday. I could not find any critters to save my life. Oh and the DOF is a pain in the rear now. Its much shallower with the FF sensor. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

Nice shot. Maybe your DOF isn't any shallower at same aperture and magnification. At same settings, would you get the whole bug in the frame on a crop sensor?

5D will allow full body shots of larger insects with the MPE which is not possible with the 40D, good combo to have.

Excellent capture- wondered what the 5Dmk2 viewfinder would be like- getting more and more tempted :)

The difference in DOF between FF and crop sensor is about one and half stop.
