Hi Folks !
Which software do you guys use to edit your pictures ?

I need to resize my pictures to share it in the web (or email). The pictures I took with my New DRebel XT are quite large (naturally !).

I tried using Microsoft Photo Editor and it clearly reduces the quality of the picture and I haven't tried the Archsoft software that came with the camera.

Thanks.

There are so many - it becomes a preference to what you are use to (and need to do.) I use Irfanview (it's free - latest version takes photoshop plug-ins, got USM for free as well) for 90% of everday work. Xnview (also free) has more power/finesse in some areas. Get Neat Image for taking noise out of high ISO shots. Media Chance has some nice free programs for beginners. And more out there!

gasrocks is right, there's tons of them out there. I've been asking myself the same thing over the last 2 years and after reading tons of posts on various forums:

1- If you got the money, bite the bullet and spend most of a year learning Photoshop and get it over with.
2- Next best thing- Elements 3.0 (I have it).
3- Next-to-next: PhotoImpact 10. Pretty easy, pretty powerful. (I got this one too).
4- Next-to-the-next to: Paintshop Pro 9.0 Pretty powerful. (I also have this one).
5- Best free one: Believe it or not, not Irfanview. You owe it to yourself to try FastStone Image Viewer 1.9. Very talented little program. Also does Canon & Nikon RAW files directly!! ( http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm )

Just me, ok, but everything else is a waste of time.

Take a look at : http://www.gimp.org/ for a free excellent software pgm. It has layers, lots of .doc, tutorials, & forum help, too.

I'd suggest Photoshop Elements 3. It has 90% of the capabilities of Photoshop CS at about 15% of the cost. However, if you can afford it, you just can't beat Photoshop CS (Until Photoshop CS 2 comes out in May, that is). It's got quite a learning curve though. I've been using the various iterations of photoshop for about 4-5 years now, and still don't know what half of it does. :)
