I am in the market for a new digital camera and have narrowed it down to two... the EOS 20D and the Digital Rebel XT. Is there anyone that has any experience with these newer Canon digital cameras? If so please let me know. I would like to know how they compare to each other and which one I should ultimately get. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Awlays buy the very best you can afford and you will never be disappointed.

This link (http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/digital/eos_digital_rebel_xt_vs_20d.html) helped me to decide.

I have not been disappointed.

Of course they will both fit my needs, but the only thing I really know about the two cameras is that the EOS 20D is 8.3 MP and the Rebel XT is 8.0 MP, and that doesn't make much a difference to me. Is the jump from 8.0 to 8.3 megapixels THAT noticable?

It is not the MP that makes the difference. I just liked the features, and size of the 20D as I was envious of my wife's 20D. Read the comparison in the aforementioned link.

The photos that come out of them will be virtually identical. The advantage of the 20D is the thumb wheel, and 5 frames per second instead of 2.5. XT's smaller and cheaper. There are other differences but they're the main ones. There are about 20 threads discussing the differences, if you do a little search those discussions should help you out.

You will not be disappointed by either camera. But if you can afford the 20D, it offers faster more responsive handling. On the other hand, if you could make good use of the difference in cost by getting better glass, then go for the less expensive model.

Good luck

The last comment is right on with what I did. I had my budget and ended up with the XT and a new 70-200 F4 (both together for a little more than the 20d with kit lens). I'm extremely happy with both so far and really glad I bought them.

BC, Cobra did the right thing for him and I did the right thing for me. We each met our own needs. The important thing is that we DID it. We hopped on the bus and have been loving the ride.

Don't drive yourself crazy agonizing over the decision. You really can't go wrong with either choice. Just hop on the bus and come with us un a great ride:lol:

A final thing to say ... go to a camera shop and try them both out.

To many people (me included) the feel is as important as the technical specifications. Well, maybe even more.

Best regards,
Andy

I am a camera salesman, and I always tell my customers that everyone is WAY too worried about specs. Pick up the camera, hold it, take a few shots, run it through its menu system, and than decide. For me personally, I'd choose the 20D because I do alot of shoots and require a metal body with a long lasting shutter, but for alot of people, the XT is a better buy, if they dont mind the miniature size.
