I have a set of Bogen 3021BPRO Legs and a Markins M10 ballhead but am currently travelling around Europe and its just to big of a tripod to haul around most of the time. I've seen some people around with very light/compact but full sized tripod, one was a manfrotto? Anyways, I have a solid tripod so I just need something light and small (but cheap, not looking for a gitzo).. its just something to use in a pinch or for the odd night shot, doesn't have to withstand gale force winds, etc.. and will only have my 17-55 or 10-22 on it. Thanks!
edit: anyone have experience with the Manfrotto 715SHB? Can you shoot vertically with it?

Have you checked out the Flashpoint F-1128? The F-1128 is a lightweight carbon-fiber tripod, 21" collapsed (shorter with the center post reversed) , holds around 9lbs, extends to 55", a bargain at US$150.
Flashpoint is Adorama's in house brand. I've used it, I like it, and I should be writing it up in some detail in the next two weeks on www.flyingwithfish.com

Ed Rader suggested a set of Benro carbon legs in post #23 of this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=644932).
I seem to recall it was about half the price of the Gitzo.

thanks, anyone else have suggestions? i definitely want something as compact and light as possible (while remaining affordable), i have a sturdy tall tripod now this would be just for travelling and frankly i'd rather have a four foot tripod i have to kneel down to use if it means it'll fold up nice and small. anyone have experience with the manfrotto 715SHB? can you shoot vertical with it?

Have you checked out the Manfrotto 3007? It is sturdy and ultra compact, I always travel with one and absolutely love it

yeah but its a table top tripod, i already have an ultrapod 2 and frankly most of the time there's no where to set it on.. shooting from the ground rarely gives a desirable perspective and then you have to lie on the ground to frame the shot.

Until that review, check these: http://www.buzzillions.com/dz_264049_flashpoint_f_1128_carbon_fiber_tripod_4_ reviews#L2ltYWdlLmRveD9SPTI2NDA0OSZ3aWRlPXRydWU= (http://www.buzzillions.com/dz_264049_flashpoint_f_1128_carbon_fiber_tripod_4_ reviews#L2ltYWdlLmRveD9SPTI2NDA0OSZ3aWRlPXRydWU)=. Seems a bit flimsy. Others have pointed to the Feisol cf for about $300, which has received some very positive comments here. Remember to consider that the ballhead weighs about a pound when you calculate the weight of your setup.

TV,
The F-1128 is not best when fully extended, with the smallest section of the legs (the bottom section of the legs). The purpose of the F-1128 is to be compact, lightweight, durable and very affordable.
There are some fantastic Gitzo carbon fiber stix I like, but they tend to run just over $800 , without the head.

Take a look at the Velbon items. I have the Ultramax iS version with a Velbon PH243 head. It compresses down to 12 inches including the ballhead, and extends to around 48 inches usable... I have used it a few times without issue with my XTI, Tamron
28X75MM & 430EX flash.
